CHARGERS VS RAIDERS
The Los Angeles Chargers matched up with the silver and black for the start of the 2023
season, which by no surprise was a tight game decided by a key 4 th quarter turnover.
Linebacker Troy Reeder got in front of pass intended for Darren Waller which allowed the
Chargers to make it a two-score game with 3 minutes remaining.
Q: How would you rate your team’s performance against the Raiders?
Coach: What can I say, we came away with the win. It’s the first game so we saw some of
the newer guys playing with nerves instead of instinct, but after we settled down, we
started executing better by the end of the first quarter.
Q: Justin Herbert was 9 – 18. Are there any concerns with his play this early?
Coach: He missed a few passes in the first quarter but it’s just a matter of timing. We have
to give credit to their defense for giving him different looks. We’ll put him in a better
position as the season goes.
Q: The defense seemed to hold Devante Adam in check. How do you feel about your
defense?
Coach: I thought the coverage was good and the secondary took the ball away 3 times. We
could only get to the QB once but we got him on the run a few times which is a credit to the
coverage.
Q: There were some concerns about the offensive line depth. How do you plan to address
this?
Coach: We’re looking at players on practice squads at this point, as everyone is spread thin
in the league at the O-Line position. We are specifically looking for linemen that are capable
of playing in our system. Until then we look to our coaching staff to get those guys ready
each week.
Q: Looks like Ekeler had a decent day on the ground, how would you rate his performance?
Coach: He’s our guy, he wants the ball and he produces when we give him the touches.
We’re going to try and use him more down field in the passing game this season and maybe
spread out some of his carries, that’s about it.
Thanks coach,
