The Jets fell to 4-4 after an embarrassing loss to the Tennessee Titans. Coach Sinatra and his squad had their worst showing of the season, with the only bright spot being running back Matt Breida combining for over 150 scrimmage yards and two scores.
Coach Sinatra did have a positive outlook on Breida, “he’s become a super star back in this league right before our eyes. His speed, agility, and ability to catch the ball have been a great asset to our offense.”
Rookie Brett Favre had his worst game of the season, throwing six interceptions. Favre needs to clean up his accuracy and decision making, as the fans are growing tired of his Jekyll and Hyde performances. Some of this is partly due to the offensive line struggles, forcing Favre to get the ball out quicker than he wants. Overall the offense needs to improve upon their lackluster play as of late.
The defense fell flat as well. Prior they had been forcing ample turnovers but struggled this game. The defensive front seven struggled to create any pressure and Ryan Tannehill diced up the secondary all game.
The Jets have a game against the New Orleans Saints and breakout star Josh Rosen next week.
The New York Jets have won their last three games after a thrilling 41 to 35 overtime victory against the Cleveland Browns.
The Jets continued their emphasis on getting speedster Matt Breida the ball, as he ran for over 100 yards and had 76 yards recieving to go with his 3 total touchdowns. Kenny Golladay and Brett Favre are continuing to build chemisty connecting for 126 yards on 6 receptions.
The Jets defense couldn't replicate their performance from a week prior, but did force two turnovers via Baker Mayfield interceptions. The first was a pick six by Karl Joseph, and the second came from rookie Ross Timmons. Timmons has been a defensive standout this season, leading the NFL in deflections while also not allowing a catch. Veteran MLB C.J. Mosley had 10 tackles on the day, adding to his league lead. The defense is finding their stride, but need to contend with cooling off as the bye week come next week.
Coach Frank Sinatra was asked about the team's three game streak heading into their bye week."Seems to act just like a drug, you're getting to be a habit with me."
Coach Sinatra showed his committment to getting that rush from winning with his bold play calling to end overtime. The Jets came out in the Monster Stack formation and caught the Browns completely off guard. Breida was able rip off back to back long runs when the Jets kept the Browns confused by going no huddle. The second run resulted in the touchdown which clinched the sweet victory for Coach Sinatra and the Jets.
The Jets climbed to 2-2 on the year after a victory against their rivals in New England. New England took the first game of the season, but the Jets bounced back and rookie Brett Favre minimized his turnovers.
"Last time they got me to make multiple mistakes. Game plan this week was to avoid negative plays and let the defense go to work."
The Jets D did just that, forcing 5 takeaways. Marcus Maye and Brian Poole contributed pick sixes, one being right at the end of the first half. Maye also forced two fumbles which the Jets were able to recover. Karl Joseph also added an interception late in the game to shut down the Patriots. Jaquizski Tartt's presence seemingly wasn't missed as he was sent to San Fransisco along with Jamison Crowder and a fourth rounder for the Niners' first round pick this year.
Offensively, the Jets committed more to the run. Matt Breida ran for 154 yards and a touchdown on a 77 yard scamper. Kenny Golladay continued his impressive season, adding 71 yards and a touchdown as well. The offense didn't seem as explosive as the week before. Only time will tell if Perriman's departure to the Jaguars was the right move, along with Crowder's move to San Fransisco as part of the Tartt deal.
One interesting interaction, or lack thereof, came at the end of the game. The Patriots coach opting to not go to midfield to shake hands with Coach Sinatra. Sinatra was asked about the moment.
"I say that's life, and as funny as it may seem, some people get their kicks stomping on a dream. But I don't let it, let it get me down. Cause this fine old world, it keeps spinnin' around."
The Jets look forward to a matchup against the Cleveland Browns as they go for a three game winning streak.
NEW YORK, NEW YORK:
The Jets climb to 2-3 after a 28 to 14 victory over the Miami Dolphins. Coach Sinatra sounded optimistic in his post game presser, "Still it's a real good bet, The best is yet to come".
Rookie Brett Favre had one of his better games on the year, completing 17 of 20 passes for 241 yards and 3 scores. Favre did throw one interception in the first half forcing the ball to Kenny Golliday. Golliday seemed to be disgruntled this week in practice following a lackluster game with minimal targets. Sources close to the team reported Golliday discussing his role with the offense and wanting more targets. Golliday ended the day with 6 catches for 78 yards, not the stat line he hoped for we imagine, but productive nonetheless.
Another major storyline was the benching of Breshad Perriman. Perriman had served as the team's de facto second outside threat with rookie Dave Malone lining up mostly in the slot. Coaches declined to comment on Perriman's benching for Dede Westbrook, besides praising Westbrook for his 4 catches for 98 yards and 2 scores. Sinatra said "Dede has been working hard at practice and it showed with his execution today". It'll be interesting to see if the Jets move on from Perriman so quickly after signing him this past offseason. There have been rumors of Jacksonville's interest in the deep threat as a weapon for rookie sensation Denard Robinson.
The Jets will host the New England Patriots next week in their attempt to get back to .500 on the year. The Jets defense seems to be hitting their stride with two good performances back to back. If Favre and the offense can continue to avoid mistakes and costly turnovers, the Jets are primed for a wildcard run.
The Jets fell to 1-3 after a 20-17 loss to the division foes in New England. The Jets defense was the bright spot in this game, forcing 3 turnovers in the form of interceptions of second year QB Drew Bledsoe. The Jets offense could not capitalize on these mistakes, and rookie Brett Favre threw 4 interceptions of his own.
The offensive line felt the absence of standout tackle Mekhi Becton, as Favre was under pressure most of the game. Favre was able to throw for 348 yards and one score despite the constant pressure. Favre has plenty of promise and talent, but the coaching staff and players need to execute gameplans better on a weekly basis.
Dave Malone and Kenny Golladay were held mostly in check, neither eclipising the 100 yard mark. Lev Bell had his first rushing touchdown in this game, and saw increased snaps with an injury to Matt Breida. Injuries have continued to plague the Jets, as Breida and Gerald McCoy are constantly exiting games due to injury. Folorunso Fatukasi (DT) also exited the game with a long term injury which will sideline him for 8 weeks.
The Jets look to avoid going 1-4 with a matchup against the Miami Dolphins next week. Their previous matchup was a shootout which was driven by Favre's best game of the season.
The New York Jets opened up their divisional play against the Miami Dolphins this week. Both teams entered the matchup 0-1 trying to avoid a winless start. The game featured some two rookie quarterbacks and fireworkds on offense. Brett Favre responded to his abysmal game against Kansas City with an incredibly efficient outing. Favre had a perfect passer rating and completed 89% of his passes for 359 yards and 4 touchdowns. Favre shook the turnover bug, as the Jets avoided giving the ball away to Miami.
Matt Breida contributed heavily on offense, combining for 151 scrimmage yards on 20 touches. Breida caught two scores and ran for one as well. Dolphins rookie sensation Leo Moss outproduced Breida handidly, rushing for 194 yards and two scores while hauling in four passes for 19 yards and another touchdown. Kenny Golladay continued his strong 2021 season, hauling in four catches for 68 yards and a score. Robert Tonyan added 5 catches for 67 yards and a score as well.
The Jets defense looked lost for most of the game, until they started forcing turnovers in the second half. Offseason signing Richard Sherman returned an interception for a touchdown. Rookie Ross Timmons had his first interception on the season at the end of the first half as well.
Dolphins rookie Dan Marino threw for 3 scores, one to Leo Moss and the other two to fellow rookie Keenan Wedlock. Wedlock was a big play machine averaging 40 yards per catch on his four receptions. Wedlock's combination of size and speed will give defenses fits for the rest of the season, including a week 5 rematch with the Jets.
The much anticipated 2021 New York Jets campaign opened against the defending AFC champion Kansas City Chiefs. New coach Frank Sinatra didn't appear to have the Jets ready to play, getting blown out 60 to 21.
Rookie Brett Favre had an okay start to the game, but ended his night with a dismal 64.6 passer rating. Favre threw for 421 yard and two scores, but coupled it with four interceptions. Offseason signing Kenny Golladay lived up to the hype, catching four balls for 170 yards and a score as one of the few bright spots. Robert Tonyan also hauled in four catches for 62 yards and a score.
The Jets defense didn't have too many answers besides their two interceptions of Patrick Mahomes, as Tyreek Hill caught two touchdowns and 221 yards. Jamal Charles also exploded for 187 yards and three scores.
The Jets look to avoid going 0-2 against the divisional foes from Miami next week. Frank Sinatra promised a playoff birth, but these could be the same god damn Jets.
Another week, another win for the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings are off to a strong 3-0 start and lead the NFC North. Minnesota took on a previously undefeated Titans team and emerged victorious 27-10.
The stars of the day were the defensive unit, as they held Tennesee to 10 points. Star running back Derrick Henry still ran for 119 yards, but rookie Marcus (Steve?) McNair threw two interceptions and lost a fumble. Ryan Tannehill also got reps at quarterback but did not get much offense going as well.
The Minnesota offense played well, but left points on the table. Minnesota failed to convert two opportunities near the red zone into touchdowns, settling for two Dan Bailey field goals. Dalvin Cook was his normal self, converting 19 total touches into 150 scrimmage yards and a touchdown. Randall Cunningham added 3 touchdowns to 1 interception, but missed fellow rookie Justin Jefferson on two separate occasions for touchdowns. On both occasions, Tennesse ran Cover 2 and Jefferson found soft spots for touchdowns but Cunningham failed to identify the coverage and route. Something to keep an eye on as he develops along with Coach Prince Nelson.
Overall, it was a good team win for the team. They look to keep their momentum rolling into a matchup with the Houston Texans (1-2) who have traded away WR Will Fuller, CB Keion Crossen, MLB Bernardrick McKinney, and Star DE JJ Watt. While on paper it doesn't look like the matchup we might have expected, it surely will be a hard fought game.
A new season and a new coach. The Minnesota Vikings opened up their season against Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers. The Minnesota defense turned in a solid performance and forced three turnovers, all interceptions.
Rookie quarterback Randall Cunningham was a game standout, passing for 3 touchdowns and 290 yards with a perfect 158.3 passer rating. Cunningham found and used star running back Dalvin Cook early and often, including two touchdown receptions.
Rookie head coach Prince Nelson did not seem to be afraid of the big moment, as he went for a fourth and short late in the game. Green Bay dialed up a blitz and Cunningham executed and found Kyle Rudolph to pick up the conversion at the two minute warning. The drive was capped off with a Dalvin Cook touchdown run with under a minute remaining.
Rodgers and company got a few quick completions and spikes to get past midfield, but Rodgers threw his third interception to seal the win for the Vikings.
Minnesota fans are optimistic after a strong start, and Prince Nelson is coaching like he heard someone call him a B tier coach.
