Michael Vick Gets His Shot At Coaching

Michael Vick will be the upcoming head coach of the Atlanta Falcons in the final season of LPL. He is being brought in, as  a way to put fans in the seat. Vick has never coached, but is being given a team loaded with talent, and will need to see how all that talent gel's together from top to bottom. Mike is a vocal player and will most likely be a vocal coach, as he has already made a few eye turning moves.

Goodbye Tyreek Hill

Tyreek Hill was a good receiver, but started to get old. Vick needed him in shape, and had asked him seversal times to come in and perform some physical tests, when Hill got there he saw Treadwell was also there. Vick didn't know what was said, but Hill took a dumb bell and swung at LaQuan's head. Two people needed to break them apart, when Hill spit on Vick. Most people thought he would feed him to the dogs, but Vick calmly walked to his office, and made a phone call. The next day Hill found his contract terminated. Vick's first move was risky, his second one, not as much.

Grady Jarrett Gets Unseated

While he did nothing wrong, Vick decided to move on from Grady as his 3Tech. He felt young tackle, Brady Fitzsimmons would do wonders in his starting role. Vick is also not well accustomed to a 4-3 defense, so will be trying more hybrid styles. Grady was a great player and locker room coach but his age and Brady's upsurge gave way to something that was inevitable.

Michael Vick has to now prepare for the upcoming free agency, but with a tight budget he might ne be able to do anything. He could easily just walk the team he has now out for the year, but he also has a few draftees coming his way, so no one knows what is going to happen. Vick just needs to be ready.

The Shockey Times: Weeks 6,7, and 8

Giants 6-2

The New York Giants have been doing a good job of completing games all year. But that didn't happen in Week 6 against the Aftershocks. In what was a 5 point lead, turned into a 3 point defecit, 36 second left in the fourth quarter. The Giants who kept contain all game on the dual threat quarterback, misplaid a crucial 3rd and goal and allowed the man to run into the endzone without any delay. It was heartbreaking, thats how dangerous these fourth quarter leads are. They make you feel safe, and one mistake and you lose. Head Coach Shockey kindly asked reporters to stay out of the locker room as they entered the tunnel, but some paid him no mind, and sat by the door as they heard Jeremy rip his team a new one. It must have worked, cause the next two weeks....

Giants went on to face the Minnesota Vikings. where they won 31-13. The offense came out rolling and never stopped. Kenneth Dixon who has been a fresh breath of air for the Giant's running game this season, almost notched his 2nd 100 yard game of the season, but missed by 9 yards. Nathaniel Bodhi was laser sharp, completing 75% of his passes for almost 250 yards and a one touchdown. Even Beckham was doing his thing when called upon with 4 receptions for 81 yards. But things didn't go well for the Giants as they lost another player to injury, Nose Tackle Glenn Carrie. Carrie who was Ioannidis's backup, is not injured leaving the Giants to turn to 3rd stringer Bronson Murrary who notched a sack in the game. DeCatholac Mango racked up 11 tackles, 1 sack and a interception in the win, as the defense seemed to be much a blanket for the day, but they did allow a decent amount of yards through the air, something Shockey is clearly pairing with the loss of Andrew Adams for Khalil Mack. Josh Shaw is doing as best of a job as he can. This win, gave the Giants a much needed confidence boost as they travelled to New Orleans to face the Saints where they.....

Won on a triumphant day of 23-0, making it the third shutout of the year for the Giants defense. New Orleans couldn't get anything moving, be it through the air or ground, compiling a 112 yard total offense. Their offensive line kept the Giants out as Mack recorded the only sack of the game for both sides, and Eli Apple secured the only turnover of the game as well. Bodhi was accurate as he was before, notching a 80% completion with over 200 yards and a touchdown to show for it. Dixon fought hard for this game, and garnered his 100 yard game tonight. Odell played well, as did Meredith who came in for Perriman who went down early in the first quarter. The injury bug is hitting hard for the Giants, but they hope to get Haynos back soon, as well as Carrie and Waller. Although if Murray continues his positive play, it might be hard to bench him for Carrie.

Giants get a bye week next week to heal up, and gather themselves as they face the Falcons after. After that, is a horrible NFC East stretch of 5 games. Giants have already refunded tickets for the Eagles game and removed it from their website.

Player Spotlight
Nathaniel Bodhi(Quarterback) - Bodhi is having a career year, in both Completion Percentage on an adjusted guestimate on yards, touchdowns, and interceptions for the remainder of the year. If he can continue to produce, Head Coach Shockey might be in the market to trade Ryan next year.

The Shockey Times: Week 3,4,5 Recap With Jeremy Shockey

Giants Sit at 4-1

In an interview with Phill Simms on his teams recent performance, Phill started off by asking Jeremy about his single loss on the season. Jeremy had to interrupt him...

"Listen Phill, we won't talk about that game. It will go down as one of the worst games this league has seen. Nothing but bush league antics on the part of their head coach. I see your confused by what I am saying so I will elaborate, in the second quarter, after my team was down 21-0, my guys were tired as shit. There was no spark left in their eyes, they just wanted their day to be over and go be with their families. I made a friendly call to the opposing side's bench and asked if I could speak with their coach, I told him we forfeit and we are just going to run the clock out. He told me okay, then do you know what that fucker does? Calls four verts on his first play of his drive, and continues to try to score. I called him again to tell him we give, just run clock out, doesn't listen. Keeps running up the score, while I'm running three downs. I even took a safety cause after he decided to stop punting the ball out of bounds everytime he punts the ball, it was down at the one. I had Bodhi take a safety, so even the refs would know we had forfeit. Nope he continued to do what he wanted to do to pad stats. It was straight up disrespectful. I apologized to the players and to the fans who had to watch this piece of human trash besmirch the name of the game. Then the Coach has the gall, to call the league and tell them I banned him from competeting here, oh and this was a day after his friend got warned about being a dick on our message boards and had to throw a tantrum because I told him to stop being a dick. It's high school Phill, it's just high school all over again. Can't believe they let him back in, but thats fine. I have told the owners and the players and they are behind us 100%, we will not play them. It may cost us games or a championship, but I'll be dead before I left the childish man on our field again."

Phill was a bit taken back by it all, but continued to press on with the interview citing to ask about week 4.

"Week 4 was a strong output for our team. Bodhi didn't play up to par like he usually plays, but Dixon and Moe came through on the ground and put up some decent numbers, the best so far for the year. With them and our defense we were able to contain the Chiefs offense to just 7 points. We even managed to force a few turnovers. The Chiefs are a good team, always in contention with the AFC. We see them as a one of the premier teams in the league. A good opponent, a true opponent who will better yourself for playing them. We did unforunately lose Ioanniddis for the year, but we believe in Glenn Carrie as his backup. We even picked up Bronson Murray, a former DE turned NT, just like we like it."

Phill was smiling and was glad Jeremy could get back on target, and he seemed more happy. Like he wasn't talking about a tumor. His final question was about the shootout in Week 5. Shockey started to laugh.

"That game was a game of hills. He started off in lead then I took it, then he took it back. It was non-stop back and forth, at the end we just managed to pull out a few points to go into a lead, and we stayed there. The Rams have a strong run game, and Todd Gurley ran all over us. The tackling drills we are doing, we might need to one up. 7 carries! 263 yards on 7 carries Phill! That is ridiculous. Neither defense showed up, we just managed to produce more then him. He will be a force in the NFC I am sure of it, but for now we got the better of him, and we just need to keep moving forward and hope we can continue this streak."

The Shockey Times: Beckham Jr Comes Home! Giants improve to 2-0

The New York Giants Start Season 2-0

The New York Giants have won two in a row to stay in contention for the top of NFC East with the Eagles, with whom they face next week. It is another hot start to a Giants team that started hot last year, only to fizzle out down the stretch. This Giants team seems a bit more complete then last year, as they welcomed back their top draft pick, Odell Beckham Jr into the fold. Odell exchanged jerseys from a Panthers one to a Giants one, moments before the game. He didn't get his traditional number 13, but he did managed 97 yards on two catches and a touchdown. Not a bad return.

Odell brings something the Giants haven't had since he left for Carolina in a trade that brought Shaq Thompson. Now he returns, and has already contributed to the teams win over his former team. There were alot of things wrong from the get go in this game, headsets were malfunctioning and it was difficult to telegraph plays to those on the field, the Giants and Panthers both turned to their backup sets, though the Giants worked slighly better, Carolina still seemed to have trouble.

The Giants defense held their second straight opponent to 0 points. It has been a defensive lockdown. Matthew Ioannidis knotched another 1.5 sacks on the night, while Mack, DeMar, and Wistrom added Interceptions to their resume. Childress was underpressure alot, and the Giants tried their best to take advantage of the young quarterbacks nerves. On offense, it was the same as last time. Dixon got the bulk of the carries, but has managed onl 2.5 YPC so far on the season. Waller has over 100 yards and two touchdowns, one in each game. While nothing jumps off the pages with the Giants offense, it'sd the fact they are trying to play a balanced style of football, something they haven't dont in a while. Bodhi made up his last games hiccups, with a solid outing, throwing a 2:1 touchdown/interception ratio. He held off the pitchforks and torches.

Player Spotlight

Odell Beckham Jr caught two passes for a total of 97 yards and a touchdown. He had three targets, but one was an off throw from Bodhi. Beckham will look to be Bodhi's number 1 target going forward, and will have a good chance of managing a breakout year for himself.

Warning Watch

The offensive line still has yet to be a force in pushing the pile, and allowing players to get to Bodhi for a second straight game. OT George Andrews was released today, and OG Kyle Long was signed, and moved to tackle. This will provide some better depth on the line.

The Shockey Times: Giants 1-0 to Start

New York Giants Vs Denver Broncos

The Giants opened up their season with a 13-0 performance over the Denver Broncos. What was a defensive battle for the better part of the game, the two sides had a hard time moving the football. Bodhi was under pressure alot, but the Giants got to Bronco QB Larson 9 times. Newly signed Nose tackle Matthew Ioannidis had 3 all by himself, and was supported by the staff around him.

After a few three and outs, Bodhi threw the first turnover of the game, in which Denver was trying its best to capitalize on. A sack on Larson dropping them back a few feet, pushed them out of optimal range and their kicker shanked it right. New York would go on to score the first points of the game, with field goal by Ryan Kaiser.

Larson would go on to throw 3 interceptions in this game, the first one which would lead to the only offensive touchdown of the game, a 5 yard pass from Bodhi to Darren Waller. Other then that, the offenses of both teams were stagnant. Both run games were atrocious, and Bodhi only slightly outplayed his counterpart. Ryan Kaiser and Johnny Hekker deserve the most accolades of the game, as Hekker routinely got the Giants out of a jam, and Kaiser didn't miss on any opportunities.

Player Spotlight:

Matthew Ionnidis managed 3 sacks in this game. Providing pressure from the middle of the line. His pressure allowed him to bring extra men inside, so Houston and Tapper could get added pressure on the outside. If this is what we could expect from Matthew for games to come, he could very well implant himself as the best Nose Tackle in NFL.

Jamarkus Burns snatched the first interception for the Giants of the season. It was a one on one coverage deep, and Burns slipped over the receiver to snatch the ball out of the air. Burns is continueing his ways of dominating the passing game, and next week against Carolina, he has a tall task yet again.

Hazardous Spotlight:

Giants offensive line did not produce well results. They didn't open holes, and they allowed too much pressure up the gut for Bodhi to escape. If the Giants want to be successful long term, the line needs to gel and learn how to work as a team to be successful.

Season Outlook: The New York Giants

A new season is on the rise, and the Giants are looking to top how they ended last season. It will be hard, they lost some real good defensive talent in Hankins, Adams, and Vernon, but are hoping an influx of new talent will bring about a new spark for a defense that started hot at the beginning of the year, but ended up dieing out.  Head Coach Jeremy Shockey who missed this past draft in order to spend time with his son and daughter, fields a team with similar skill sets each year. This year things may change, the Twin Arms are still manning the battery and will look to increase on their production last year. The Line looks different from last year, but  the Backers seemed to of gotten better. On O-Line things have changed up a bit but not much, and the receiving corp is very much the same, minus a few role players here and there. Lets take a look see at a positional breakdown.

Quarterback:

Nathaniel Bodhi: Drafted in the 2nd round of 2020, Bodhi was named starter last year out of the gate. He amassed, just 5 yards shy of 3,000 and had 14 Touchdowns to 20 Interceptions. His completion percentage was a few clicks shy of 60, but it showed a drop off as the season progressed. He wasn't sacked much, just under 20, but did miss 1 game at the end of the year due to injury, and was replaced several times throughout the season in games where he struggled early on. Shockey has named his starter once again, amidst a great pre-season run. Hopefully his progression can continue on this year.

Ryan Mruczkowski: A Fellow 2nd round draft pick in 2020 with his compatriot Bodhi, Ryan was used sparingly in the season. He got to see time throught the season as Bodhi struggled and he came in to do damage control usually winning the game, or closing the gap. His lone start came in Week 17 against the Eagles when Bodhi was out with an injury in which he did a great job, earning him a start in the playoffs. He ended the season with a little over 1k in yards, and 6 touchdowns to 5 interceptions. His completion percentage was better then Bodhi, even thought he is considered a bomber arm not an accuracte arm. He was sacked almost as much as Bodhi, which leads to Ryan needing to work on his footwork if he is too get the nod from Shockey anytime soon.

Halfback

Kenneth Dixon: Picked up as a Free Agent in 2021, Dixon will come in replacing Landford from the previous year. His previous team didn't use him much as he had under 50 yards on the year rushing, but exactly 100 yards receiving with 2 touchdowns. Shockey is hoping the veteran will have been rested up, and will be pushing forth to keep the job away from a hungry young halfback who is sitting behind him on the depth chart. He is expendable, but Shockey wants to see him succeed.

Tre Hale: Hale makes a return to the Giants after being let go a few years back. His quick feet and shifty hips allowed him to slightly succeed in a limited capacity with the Giants, but being removed from football for a year, or never setting foot on the turf, Hale will have to severaly impress the Giants staff this coming year to show he is a good reclamation project. Hale is fighting uphill, the only advantage is he is young and Dixon is old.

Walker Moe: A fourth round HB drafted by the Giants back in 2018, Moe has done what they have asked. Gain a few yards, make a tackle break down, and then hit the line for a touchdown. His numbers would look better on any other team that uses its running game more efficiently, but Moe was brought back to be his powerback self again. This would more then likely be the end of his career with the Giants as his rookie contract will be up, and the Giants will look to replace him with a young guy in the upcoming draft.

Cole Haynos: A widereceiver converted into a halfback, Cole has done one thing well for the Giants since being picked up, and thats receiving. His screen and flat skills allow him to sneak out and get a quick few yards for a touchdown or just to move the chains and keep the clock running. His running numbers dropped significantly since his rookie year, but he wasnt the starter last year unlike his rookie year where he started a few games towards end of year. This could be another year where he steps even further back in running, but his receiving ability shouldn't suffer much. Hale could eat into receptions, and if that happens, Haynos maybe looking for a new team new year.

Fullback

Dallas Moll: 26 years old, Moll has not been anything more then a role player in his career. He has a few catches in the past 4 seasons, but has run the ball 0 times. The Giants will be looking to change that drastically in their scheme. He has some speed to his bigger frame, so he might see some short yardage downs. He might even pop over to Tight End on jumbo sets to help block, as Danny Vitale is not great at blocking.

Wide Receiver

Breshard Perriman: Aquired a few years back in a trade with Baltimore, Perriman has been the Number 1 receiver in the Giants offense since. He has lead the wide receivers in receptions, yards, and touchdowns on the Giants every year, only being surpassed by Waller. His deep threat ability allows him to pull safties off the middle and expose a soft underbelly for Waller to hit. He does a decent job over the middle with his size, which makes him such a connundrum since hes fast. He needs to learn to hold onto the ball, his contract is almost up so this needs to be his best year forward.

Cameron Meredith: Giants went after him right away off the bat in Free Agency. He is a player the Giants want to use to switch around their core value of trying to tall body receivers instead of smaller quick onces. He didn't catch a pass last year with Miami, but the Giants equate that more to the passing play of the Dolphins other then Merediths ability. He will immediately replace Dezmin Lewis as a number 2 and will be looked at alot to provide a spark.

Asher Hurns: Drafted in the 6th round by the Giants, he had a breakout rookie season, making the Pro Bowl, and over 500 yards receiving and over 1300 yards in punt and kick returns. Giants thought they had something of a hidden gem. Turns out over the last two season Hurns has seen less looks and even less return chances. He will be the main returner once again but has alot of competition coming into the season, only now they hope he has progressed enough to man the slot. If he cant handle the duties, there is a 6'6" receiver behind him who will be given the shot.

Collin Holcomb: Picked up in free agency along with Cameron Meredith, Holcomb is their biggest threat besides Waller. He is a bit of a unknown as he has not been used much in his career. Shockey is hoping maybe a change of scenery will jumpstart this mans career. He will be in on Four Wide packages, but if he shows promise, Shockey will bump him up the line.

Javonte Regis: Regis was drafted to be Hurns eventual replacement, and has show promise in the return game, but is not making headway in receiving. He is still 23 years old and has alot of room to grow. If he can continue to grow, he will supplant Hurns as a threat in both the receiving game and return game. He needs to learn to hold onto the ball and take the next step forward.

Heath Dixon: Another free agent pickup by the Giants, making that almost half the corp is new this year. Dixon is a project. He has size, speed, burst, and a good jump. He will work on his fine tune movements, and his release. IF he can work all of this he will be in prime position to take Meredith's job. Expect to see him on 5 wide.

Tight End:

Darren Waller: He has been the number 1 tight end in LPL for the past few seasons. His size, speed, footwork, and ability to catch under pressure are all tops in his field. He is getting on the older side, so we will wait to see if this has any effect on his performance this season. He should be the best security blanket for a second year pair of quarterbacks.

Danny Vitale: 27 Year old converted Fullback with good hands. Danny does what Darren does, just in a less productive way and in a shorter frame. Standing around 6'2" his small frame makes it difficult for him to be a constant threat over the middle as the linebackers will wreak havok on him, but his quickness will allow him to get a jump start on the slower ones on quick slants and out routes. Don't expect much for him outside of a few packages. He needs to work on his hands.

Jerrell Adams: Drafted by the Giants in the 6th round. he did well in his time as a Giant but was let go. He was picked back up this offseason as Shockey wanted to see if time away brought him down to earth after he lashed out against the Coaching staff for not getting enough playing time last time.

Offensive Tackles

Justin Pugh: Pugh has anchored the line at left tackle since Shockey took over. He has lost some strength, but his footwork and framing are fantastic. Depending on how well he does, he maybe switched to Right Tackle where Ereck Flowers currently sits. In doing so, he will face lesser skilled DE's. He has a few years left on contract so this might be a year where he needs to show off all that he can do, before bitting the bullet.

Ereck Flowers: Projected to be a starting left tackle in his career, the Giants moved him to Guard once Shockey took over and he thrived there. His lateral movement which is limited excelled in close space and allowed him to use his unending strength to lock down rushers. While he now sits at right tackle, its mainly due to him progressing in such a wonderful state that allows him to do so. He could see Left Tackle next year like the Giants had intended, but he may stay on the right. If he can continue to manhandle the edge, he will be a valuable piece going forward.

George Andrew: Not well liked in the organization, Andrew was brought in just to be a camp body. He lacks strength and footwork skills to start. His jarring physical interaction to start a block is also misleadingly impaired by small arms. He's big bodied, and against soft opponents he might win, but its alll 50/50. Do not expect him to be on the roster by years end.

Offensive Guard

Dion Hazelton: Drafted in the 2nd round last year, Hazelton was the starting left guard last year, and played well for a rookie. He gets the nod again this year and has show increasing improvement in his run blocking ability and pass blocking is coming along as well.

Renee Nance: A free agent pickup that was looked at in Summer OTA's to be a possible backup center, but when he showed how good he was with manhandling tackles and inside rushes, they decided to try him out on guard. He excelled expectations and won the starting job in pre-season. He will have Ereck on his right, which will help crash down on blitzes as the two should be able to overpower their attackers.

Johnathan Cash: This man has all the talent in the world to be fantastic. His leverage is great, his reach and brute strength are on par with starting guards around the league, but what he lacks is technique and hand placement. He stops driving his feet, and he gives up on a block too soon. He needs to develop a mental toughness if he wants to succeed in the league.

Center

Weston Richburgh: The steady incumbent at Center, Shockey played around with benching Richburgh in favor of a younger guy, but when he saw how Boston was holding up under center, they immediately went back to Richburgh. He may not overpower players, but he doesn't give up. He locks his hands and keeps the defender in front of him, allowing what little holes this offense line produces for the back to go through.

Larez Boston: Lauded as the next star on the offensive line, Boston has gone through alot. A starter at guard only to be replaced by Nance. Then was herald as a center by trade, only to see his stock go down when he almost allows Bodhi to get hurt in practice. The Giants still like his skill, and he is still somewhat young where he coudl easily slid in somewhere, but he needs to show it. He needs to show he can block for the twin towers.

Defensive End

Justin Houston: Aquired in a trade with Kansas City, Houston is now the anchor on a defensive line that has gone through a power shift. What was once a dominating trio, is now left to just Houston and two newcomers. Justin is old and is in the decline of his career, but he still plays with a meaness that you cant teach. His spin move is almost up there with the great Freeney. If the Giants want to get any sort of pass rush this season, its gonna start with Justin.

Charles Tapper: A free agent pick up that is looking to rekindle a season he had back in 2017 wherre he got a career high 9 sacks. He will start opposite of Houston, so his job will be a bit easier as they will focus more on him. He is not a young guy, but the Giants hope that the opporunity to start will open up the dominant pass rusher from half a decade ago.

Trey Mahaffey: When Vernon walked, everyone assumed Mahaffey was getting the call, but when Tapper was signed the expectations changed around Trey. He showed up late to practice, argued with fellow linesmen. He made every bad impression one could make. Shockey brought him aside and told him that he needed to change his attitude. If he cant, he would find hismelf on the streets looking for work.

B.J. Rowe: A late season pickup last year, Rowe didn't factor into alot. He's big, hes got speed, and he can get into the backfield by pushing the tackle into the quarterback. He is only 24, so given another year on a bench, he should be poised for a breakout season next year. He will be backing up Tapper, so if Tapper goes down, he might get the call or Maheffey gets it.

Nose Tackle

Matthew Ioannidis: Hankins was the dominant man in the middle for the past few years, but as he aged and got slower, he provided no rush from the middle. Ioannidis who started his career as a defensive tackle made a switch to end a few years ago. Giants followed him, watching him develop, and when he hit open market Giants pounced. Having the body type he has, and now ther training at end, the Giants were no fools to put him at Nose. Giants are hoping with the downgrade the line received, Matthew can get a nice rush going up the middle.

Glenn Carrie: Undrafted this year, and picked up by the Giants, Carrie is another converted defensive end, who has more muscle then speed. He is just like Hankins except less polished and more unpredictable. He is only 23 years old and a rookie, give him one or two years and he will be starting Nose for the Giants.

John Echols: John is a bit of a conundrum. He is another undrafted free agent picked up by the Giants this year. He has the size, but his speed is oddly a better factor for a man his size. He cant shed blocks that well, and has a hard time wrapping up a tackle, but if he continues to develop he could find himself as a better run defending end on certain packages.

Outside Linebacker

Khalil Mack: Aquired by the Giants in a trade with the Browns this offseason, Mack was suppose to be a defensive end coming in, but when B.J. Goodson didn't resign, Giants wanted to test Mack out in his position. An edge player his whole career, he splits time between end and linebacker. He provides a pass rushing linebacker the Giants have been missing, and could now use some exotic blitzes with him and Houston.

Devin Wistrom: Last years first round pick, Devin made plays all year. He was in the running for defensive rookie of the year, and even had his name thrown into the mix a few times for NFC Linebacker of the year. He plays opposite Mack, and usually behind Houston. Having him behind Houston takes pressure off when he blitzes, allowing people to double team Houston and he escapes untouched. He also has a lateral movement that locks down the flats and dump off passes making him very valuable.

Parrish Dent: A Converted saftey, Giants like Dent as a coverage back. He can drop into coverage and lock down the passes. He can match up with tight ends and a few running backs. He needs to learn how to wrap and drive home a tackle in order to break into the next order of the depth chart, but he is brought out on certain packages to create a nice zone coverage package.

Hugh Pascoe: Signed in free agency to be a pass rushing edge linebacker back up. He has speed and quick movement to escape a block. He needs to work on his hip movement in coverage, and to be able to read the flat passes. If he can grow into a better coverage skill set, he should will be a quality starting OLB.

Cortez Bradshaw: A special teamer who can gun down the field and make a play on a returner. He has raw physical attributes but has limited ability transfering them to onfield success outside of special teams. If he can create upgrades to the small nuances of his game, he could emerge as a strong contender next year for a startring role somewhere in this Linebacker unit.

Zachary Reuber: Reuber was picked up late last year as a replacement to a linebacker corp that had taken a beating. He has the talent and the mental strength to make the leap as a starting linebacker, but he needs the time to grow. Though not as raw as Bradshaw, he poses great physical gifts and the willingness to learn.

Inside Linebacker

Decatholac Mango: He showed up last year after Shaq Thompson decided to not come back, and was shoved into a starting role. He played damn well for being shoved into the spot light. Coming in now as a 2nd year starter, Mango will man the middle of the field. He has a good flexible movement in his hips, and allows him to change directions quick to pursue the ball carrier. He can even add pressure on blitz packages.

Bradley Shipp: He came in last year mid way replacing Heeney as the Ike to Mango's Mike. He is not as skilled as Heeney in coverage but is a more capable tackler and blitzer, leaving him to be a 2 down linebacker. He struggled in coverage last year, but we are hoping to see a jump in ability. If he can, he can stay on the field as an every down linebacker.

Ben Heeney: Heeney is brought back to be the coverage linebacker they needed Shipp to be last year. He may not be as physically gifted, but he runs down tight ends in coverage and is able to even match with some of the slower wide receivers. He does provide a liability in the run game, allowing the backs to run over him as he doesn't get the correct leverage.

Carlos Houshmandzadeh: Giants are keeping Carlos around another year, hoping he surpasses Heeney and eventually Shipp to start as Ike. He has size and mobility to be a quality coverage linebacker, and his tackling and wrap ability are average. A year or two in the trenches and working out will keep him on the roster, but Carlos needs to make the leap himself to push him into the next level.

Cornerbacks

Eli Apple: The First round pick back in 2016, Eli has been a starter since his second year. He usually lines up with the number 2 receivers, as he is not as fast as Burns, but his size and atheltic ability allow him to keep up with his targets. He even has the power to come down against the run and hit the back in the backfield. He even rushes the quarterback from time to time. Eli will be the starter for the whole year, as long as his body holds up.

Jamarkus Burns: Burns was a first round pick in 2018, his speed being the best commodity at the time, but since his rise to starting he has done a great job at being a shut down corner. He lines up over the number 1 receiver and does his best to the play and ability of said receiver. He has similar size to Apple, but is not as great as using it in the run defense. If at any point his play wanes, he is in prime position to switch to Free Safety.

Tre Garvin: Garvin was the Nickel last year, and returns again to be the Nickel this year. His coverage isn't great but Shockey likes his ability to generate pressure on free blitzes from the Nickel spot. His position is in jeopary, as he does lack coverage ability, but he can hold off Nix if he continues to be a blitz corner who can get to the quarterback. Should Nix over take nhim. Garvin will find his position on the team removed.

Malcolm Nix: Undrafted, Nix is something of an enigma for the defense. He has great speed and coverage ability, but can never let it translate on the field. He leaves his man open, and never challenges for the ball. His Dime position is fine for him now, but Shockey wants him to progress and develop into a Nickel corner. He also subsitutes on Kick Returns and Punt Returns sometimes.

Antaries Culpepper: Drafted this year, Culpepper will rarely see the field. He is a project player, nothing more. he has decent speed and decent quickness off the snap, but his press coverage and jamming of the wide receiver needs some serious work if he wants to see actual playing time.

Free Safety

Josh Shaw: Shaw was picked up in free agency this year, hoping he could beat out Garvin for the nickel role, but when Andrew Adams was traded, Shaw asked to show case his ability as a free safety. Shockey and his staff liked what they saw, and inked him at starting safety for week one. He has no real competition but that doesn't mean he can take it easy. He needs to show he wants to be here, and Shockey has a feeling for players with heart.

Landon Engelberger:He was a free agent all last year and Shockey brought him in for a tryout several times, but didn't really show off much. Again with Adams leaving, they brought him in and tried him as Free Safety. He shows a natural ability to track the ball and hold up in a challenge at the high point but he needs to tighten his coverage ability. He needs to lock down over the top and not spread that security blanket.

Strong Safety

Landon Collins: There has been no other strong safety in Shockeys tenure. While they played with the idea of moving him to linebacker, Shockey came to his senses. Landon belongs in the back, he throws his body into receivers to jar the ball loose. He lays wood on anyone who climbs over the middle, he may not cover the deep ball as well as before, but his ability of dropping down and protecting soft spots, and taking a run at the quarterback, give him a quality few strong safeties posses.

Russell DeMar: Russell is a big boy at safety, drawing comparing to Kam Chancellor. A free safety all of last year, he was going to start when Adams left, but with the addition of Shaw and Engelberger DeMar wanted to show he had an ability to contribute. During a hitting drill he laid Moe out, and impressed the hell out of Shockey. Now he backs up Collins, and is the third deep safety. A bit quicker then Landon, he is learning how to use his big frame in ways Landon can't. If he can keep up the work, he will be a good replacement to Landon.

Zac Trotter: A four year veterain, Trotter is looking to show off he still has something. He is the third saftey on both free and strong. His coverage skills are average as is his tackling and pursuit skills. He makes up for it, with a determination to show he can still be a solid team member and produce.

Kicker

Ryan Kaiser: Giants have gotten the most out of their kickers year after year. Being brought in back in 2019, he exceeded expectations for an undrafted rookie kicker, the following year he managed to win NFC Kicker of the Year, something akin to Giants. Kaiser may not have the strongest leg, but he has a good accuracy. He is also aware of pressure, and can usually shake it off.

Punter

Johnny Hekker:After letting the veteran Nortman go, the Giants wanted a player who had a deep leg, and Hekker has that. With one of the strongest legs for a punter in the league, Hekker can dominate. He coffin corners teams deep in their territory, and he can make a bad possesion into an okay one, with knocking the opposing team back in their own territory. He will be the unsung hero of the Giants if they make it to the playoffs.

Bill Swerski's Take On The Port: An Interview with Dah Bears

Welcome to Bill Swerski SuperFan Interview with LPL Head Coach Legend, Porty. We here like to thank him for all the work he is doing on leading dah Bears to the promised land. And as promised I will give a lifetime supply of sausage if he gets the job done. Here is a brief exchange I had with Porty at our annual Meats Bowl down at Bennigans.

(Bill) Porty, you have made it to the top of the NFC again. You seem to have a hold on this conference, as all roads through the NFC go through you. How has your continued succees made you feel?
(Porty)The success has still made me feel unsuccessful. Not making the super bowl after being so close multiple times is definitely a downer, but it's taught me the strategies that people play with in the postseason.

(Bill)Is there anyone in the playoffs on the NFC side that you are most excited to face? Ones you are less then thrilled to face? (Porty)I'm excited to face the exotic. When we played in regular season I could tell he was just having a bad day and that was at a point in the season where I got hot. A rematch during his best part of the season will be a bunch of fun. I don't want to face either kolb or laf. Both have tall wr and are good at reading defenses which makes tight coverage really important in getting contested catches.

(Bill)If you make it to the Superbowl, who do you expect to meet there? Can the NFC end the AFC's winning reign over the last several seasons?
(Porty)I hope to see bjanko or George there. It definitely seems like they are separating themselves from the rest of the afc. But taj and hadder are both very good which makes any opponent on that side a tough draw. If I can find a way to score on bjankos defense, I can hopefully win. Last time we played he had 3 user picks on great plays. But having not played George I can't say I will know what to look for.

(Bill)As Commissioner in this league, you have done a good amount of work trying to keep people in line and making the league as fun as it can be. How do you deal with the stress of being in charge and having to parlay between members of the league and yourself or others?
(Porty)The commissioner role is definitely more responsibility than I expected, and I hardly do anything compared to rich. But usually it's a stress free environment with complaints generally going over well. If I'm too stressed I distance myself for an hour or two. And than come back to make a decision on it. Helps tame the emotions.

(Bill)Madden 18 is on the horizon, will we see a team switch for the Bears of Porty House? Or shall you continue your dominance in the NFC in Madden 18 with Trubinsky and Co?
(Porty)I believe in madden 18 I'm rolling with the chargers. Going to be fully rebuilding the team in order to hopefully draft the goat qb in the first rookie draft. I believe my run of division championships will end in m18 though, which is a bummer.

(Bill)You have been here a while, and friendships must have occured along the way. Do you have anyone here with whom you share more then the casual joke about someone getting "Maddened"?
(Porty)I've definitely had the most communication with tom. He's such an adorable little social butterfly that he's always looking for someone to talk to. Since becoming a commissioner I've spoken much more with rich and am always learning new things from him.

(Bill)If you were to switch teams with one person, who would it be? Why does that persons team interest you?
(Porty)I would switch with either the aftershocks, cowboys, or the bills. All because of their mobile quarterbacks.

(Bill)Currently we do no allow Custom Offensive Playbooks. Would you be able to explain what yours would look like if we did allow it?
(Porty)My custom playbook would depend on my roster. If I had a mobile qb it would be loaded with option plays, with kaufman right now, I just can't play that play style which I grew up quarterbacking until high school so I know the system very well.

(Bill)What is a feature not yet shown in any Madden game that you wish EA would put into one of its future games?
(Porty)I wish that ea would make potential more like it is in NBA. However, new features would definitely include character ratings and actually consistent dynamic development rating.

(Bill)If you could create a team in a foreign country, preferably Europe but not excluding other counties, where would you put the team, and what would be the name?
(Porty)I would probably put one in Berlin, and be named the demolishers because of the wall, or the reaganers because reagans a beast. I do think teams in the Asian markets would be huge, filling a stadium due to population density would be easy and the technological advances that are common there would provide a really exciting experience.

(Bill)Final last question, what is your take on the new rule implemented by the Board of LPL to prevent people from reaching on draft picks? Would it be around in M18?
(Porty)I love the rule change. I understand the opponents of it's thinking, but it's not feasible to make scouting exactly like real life without having a much more dynamic development style. If it works well I wouldn't mind it staying. But hopefully ea comes up with a new more in depth scouting style.

The Shockey Times

In something of an odd coicidence, the Giants make the playoffs again. They make it, after the had a mid season collapse. Nathaniel Bodhi who did most of the work to get them to this big stage, is not playing, leaving the other young gun, Ryan Mrcuzowski to lead an offense, that did alot of leg work, but failed to capitalize. Players maybe getting on the old side, and so this maybe a final shot for a few people.

In their lone meeting of the Carolina Panthers this season, the Giants lost. It was a hard loss, and it was something they need to overcome in the playoffs if they wish to go forward. Keeping Childress in check will be a task for alot of the defense. They need to run exotic blitzes, and counters. If the Giants can get out of their head, and keep their cool they should be able to put up a good game.

The time is running short on this roster, and Coach Shockey needs to keep the motor going.

Tale of Two Arms: Part One

It may come to a big suprise to many fans who watch LPL on a yearly basis that the Giants are in the lead of the NFC East. While starting off strong, the Giants have floundered a bit. There defense seems to be breaking down and their offense seems to be picking up more speed. This switch in a paradime is due to the Rookie Quarterbackers, Nathaniel Bodhi and Ryan Mruczowski. Both have gotten starts and both have done a good job when given the opportunity. After a meltdown vs the Redskins, Bodhi was benched in favor for Mruczowski who perfermored well. When it came time to face the Redskins again, Shockey put Bodhi back in to face his demons. He came away with a win, but barely.

These two rookie QB's will have different paths, and will take a different time to develop into what each will become. The Giants seem to favor the two, and wants to see them fight and strive to be better. Bodhi will get another start after over coming his fears, but Ryan is on the ready and will come in at a moments notice. The two have started to rely on Darren Waller more often, who is starting to turn into his monster self again this season.

Two Arms. One Team. One Title. The adventure begins. Do you have your 3-D Glasses on?

Giants Quarterly: Defense

While the Giants Offense has been a bit non-existent, the defense has been stepping up, though in different ways then they past. For the past few seasons, the Giants Run defense was much better then their pass, this season it seems as if Apple and Burns have finally stepped into their groove. The two are shutting down opposing receivers, and Garvin has been an excellent Corner Rush and Slot Corner. It's not just that though as the Giants are averaging the most sacks in the league per game. Lets get a little run down on the defense.

Defensive Line:

Justin Houston, Olivier Vernon, and Johnathan Hankins make up the front trio of the Giants Defensive Line. Between the three of them, they have 15 sacks. Vernon and Houston also have 4 forced fumbles between the two of them. After letting JPP walk, word around the sports pages were that the Giants would be losing their pass rush ability, but it seems as if they haven't lost much. Hankins is by no means the solid answer at middle, but he is suitable for now. A few moves were made in the last few weeks as Ramsey will no longer be Hankins backup, but Joey Mungro will. Spikes will also no longer be the backup to Vernon, Willie Hayward will be. Even Kirkland was waived to the practice squad to make room for these moves. If the Giants can keep the line intact, they should have a good pass rush all season.

Linebacker:

The Giants couldn't hold onto Shaq Thompson, Bruce Irvin couldn't be persuaded to stay, and several depth pieces left. This was once a staple for the Giants, and when they brought in new defensive coordinator Jessie Armstead, they were making a switch to a 3-4 which meant employing more Linebackers. Truth be told, Goodson was going to be the one walking, but with Thompson and Irvin not coming back, Goodsom was tagged. Going into the draft the Giants were undecided on what to draft, a QB or a LB. They went first round with Devin Wistrom. He has been fantastic and done everything that they had asked. Both Goodson and Wistrom have managed 7 sacks total, providing that the two belong on the outside. Wistrom should easily be in the running for DROY for the NFC. He may not win, but he will get his name on the list. Shipp, Mango, and Heeney will play a rotating roll in the Middle, Heeney in for coverage, Shipp in for run downs.

Cornerbacks:

Eli Apple and Jamarkus Burns were the starters last year, but there seemed to be a disconnect. There was also a missing rushing defense skill position in the nickle that they missed since DRC and Jenkins. Garvin was signed off the street and has been fantastic. Apple and Burns have started to thrive as a duo. Even Nix is starting to show progress as a Dime Back. While the season progresses, if they can continue this chemistry they should make it hard for QB's to pass on them.

Safeties:

Anyone who is anyone knows Landon Collins. He is a beast, and in a few years will be transformed into a Money Back. He plays zone to zone, and sideline to sideline, hitting receivers and backs with enough power to knock them out a series or two. He hits hard and plays harder, and he is joined by his partner Founding Father Andrew Adams. Adams is not as skilled as Collins, but tries just as hard. He lacks the hitting power of Collins, but his coverage is slightly tighter. He may or may not be here next year, but make it known, he loves his teams and will sacrfice the body for them. Being an undrafted FA, he has beaten all odds.

Giants Quarterly: Offense

4 and 0. That is the Giants record so far. Coming from a season ago where they started 0-4, this could be a good sign, or a good omen. Who knows. It's all in how Coach Shockey will bring his players along the rest of the season. What we do know is that the Giants are showing a different side of themselves, they are proving that the defensive scheme shift is working for them. Lets get a rundown of the Giants this quarter,

Quarterback:

Nathaniel Bodhi and Ryan Mruczkowski have been splitting time behind center. Shockey trying to see which of the rookies will be his go to guy for the season. Bodhi has a heads up in the competition, being more accurate and nimble in the pocket, but Jeremy likes Ryan Home Run Throws. He loves the boys arm, and loves his dedication to getting better. Bodhi should see some more starts as the season goes on, but unless Nathaniel truly breaks free from Ryan, Ryan will see some playing time.

Halfback/Fullback:

Jeremy Langford was picked up in free agency to be the lead back. He has done an adequate job when asked, but he is not keeping defenses honest. The Giants have never had a good rushing attack, as they usually employ running on a Shotty Ball type style of needed balance. Moe and Haynos have done an okay job when called upon, Moe more then Haynos. The new Fullback Braunecker has been good, his hands are better then his blocking or running. He gives the Giants another option for their rookie QBs.

Receivers:

Breshard Perriman leads the Corp once again. Through four games he has averaged one touchdown a game. He also accounts for 80% of the touchdowns the Giants Corp has caught. He has lost a step, but his deep threat ability is still there. New comer Dezmin Lewis has taken over as the number 2. He's big and fast but raw. He has the physical tools, but the mind capacity is lacking. He hasn't dropped many passes, so he is showing some improvements from when they signed him. Robby Anderson, Asher Hurns, and Adam Humphries have all seen their roles diminished, but Robby has seen some extra time lately. Adam has one catch to his name, while Asher has one drop. Shockey hopes he can figure out how to utilize Asher better as he needs the man to step up and show his skills.

TightEnd:

Well no suprise here, Darren Waller leads the team in receiving, but he also has 5 drops so far this season. His blocking has gotten better but not by much. He will still be a favorite target of his Qb's as they need good checkdown options. A.C. Leonard was signed to be the number 2 tight end. He has speed and size like Darren just not as polished. Having two tight ends who can provide match up problems is a luxury the Giants like to keep. Jefferies is their blocking tight end, he is not used much in the passing game.

Offensive Line:

Pugh, Ruchburg, and Flowers return to be the foundation of the Giants offensive line, but all three are getting old. Dion Hazelton was drafted to be the started Right Guard, putting him between Pugh and Richburgh who can help the young man develop and perform at a high level. Giants took a chance and whiffed on a late tackle, leaving Archambaeu as the incumbent starter once again. When the season started the Giants looked to see what he has was made of, but soon found out he was not the answer they seeked. A 3rd week signing of Larez Boston took over the job and has looked okay in the role. Giants need a plan at Tackle for when Pugh gets too old and when they find out Boston is not the solutions.

Strengths and Weaknesses: Re-Signing the Giants

The glitz and glamour of the re-signing phase is over, and the Giants now have the skeleton crew of a team they will mount the field with in next years schedule. Did the Giants bring back enough players? Were those that left really worth letting walk? Lets Discuss.

Quarterback
The Giants have played Quarterback carousel for so long, no one thought twice when the Giants re-signed Matt Ryan after picking him up off wavers at the end of the year. They were more suprised that the Giants let Cody Kessler go and signed Nick Foles to be their backup. This is a topsy turvy world we live in, but the Giants coaching staff must think that the two of them can hold down the fort.

Runningback/Fullback
Bringing back Cole Haynos was the only real move the Giants did this off-season when it came to the running game. They had released Tre Hale at the end of the season, since his contributions were negligible. Him and Obiozor proved that speed was not going to be the answer at this position. Seth DeValve and Danny Vitale were also let go, but you can read more about them in the Tight End section.

Wide Receiver
The Giants neither needed to let go of anyone or resign anyone at the moment. They let Rainey Calvin walk in Week 17 before they faced the Dolphins, but that was it. The unit went through a transformation of sorts through the season. Hurns was out for a while, and Regis stepped in to fill his void, but didn't do so well on offense, but more then made up for it on Special Teams. Humphries, Perriman, and Anderson all saw time as the Number 1, but only Perriman cemented himself in that role, being the only Receiver under Shockey to top 1,000 yards. Humphries and Anderson will fight for the Number 2 this offseason, with the loser being relegated to the 4 slot.

Tight End
Darren Waller is all that will be returning from this squad from last year. Ryan Maneria, Seth DeValve, and Danny Vitale were all allowed to walk. It was kind of shocking since Darren is getting older, but the team felt as if the rest of them didn't do a good enough job. Waller will get the nod, but the Giants needs to bring in depth for both blocking and someone who can occasionaly play FB.

Offensive Line
The line will be relatively the same from last season with two exceptions. Britt and Brink will not be returning and their backup center was also released, Derek Kinder. Malcolm Brzezinski and Mason Archambeau are only place holders at LG and RT, expect to see a replacement come in the draft.

Defensive Line
Jason Pierre-Paul and David Onyeamata were both let go. JPP's release was sudden but not unexpected. With Houston, Vernon, and JPP vieying for a spot, JPP was the least skilled and allowed to go. He will find work elsewhere as Houston takes over Left End and Vernon solidifies Right End. Hankins will still remain Nose Tech as Onyemata's release signifies they trust him. Depth is solid as end with Spikes and Mahaffey.

Outside Linebackers
B.J. Goodson and Decatholac Mango serve as the starting outside linebackers. Goodson who is a better 3-4 linebacker find this most at home. Del Greco who is a converted defensive end and Tavarres Winborn will be good to come in and spot start, and will provide good positioning on special teams. Look to see Del Greco challenge for a starting role sometime in the fall or next year. Bruce Irvin was not resigned, and a few other practice squad members were released.

Inside Linebackers
Shaq Thompson and Ben Heeney who was resigned on the cheap will be the starting duo in the middle with Shaq being the go to when they go into into Nickle and Dime. Heeney's resigning was a weird one as he is a much better suited Mike in a 4-3, but the Giants are hoping his coverage potential can even out his lack luster rushing ability. The Giants could grab a replacement in the draft if need be.

Cornerback
Jamarkus Burns and Eli Apple man the station. Both were kept as they need the two to continue to be a dominant force. Phillip Gaines, DeAndre Polley were both let go as their speed was great as an addition to the team, but they lacked the coverage skills needed to be effective in this new system. They couldn't run support or blitz the quarterback, so they will be replaced with Malcolm Nix and Davoin Shower-Handle. The two young corners need to show up and put as much effort as they can into practice to get a shot at playing in the big game.

Free Safety
Bo Thompson got his walking papers. He was the backup to Andrew Adams and DeAndra Carson who also got his walking papers. Shockey felt it was time that DeMar get his chance to prove his worth. While not as good in coverage as Thomspon or Carson, he makes up with his better down hill attack and his ability to wrap up ball carriers. Expect to see him line up in the strong safety spot as well.

Strong Safety
Nothing has changed. Landon Collins is still a beast, and Shabazz is his backup. There is talk of Collins going to Linebacker next year but that is purely speculation and only if DeMar or Shabazz show they can handle the full load of being a strong safety.

Special Teams
Ryan Kaiser stays on as the Kicker for the Giants, but Brad Wing decides to take his talents elsewhere. Wing whose leg power has started to wain, will more then likely find a home somewhere else, but the Giants wanted to make sure it locked up Kaiser. Kaiser will now handle the task of kickoffs and fieldgoals/extra points.

A Look Ahead: Fresh Breath for the NY Giants

Its a new year for the New York Giants, and all the fans can breath a sign of relief. The New York Giants started out a worst 0-6 before managing to come off the struggle bus with a 8-8 record, salvaging what little dignity they had in themselves. As promised by the Head Office, there will be massive changes for the upcoming Giants, a new defense is in the works, as the offense will begin to roll out a new plan of attack. These changes are all welcome with open arms by many, but a few question them and they should.

Do the Giants have the personnel to handle these changes? Well that is what we are here to talk about. Last year the Giants were underwhelming. The passing attack was good for 3rd in the league, as Cody Kessler lead the team(2,950 Yards on 204/335 Attempts, with 17 Touchdowns and 15 Interceptions), but the Giants used Christian Hackenberg, Matt Ryan, and Earl Horne throughout the season. The running game though was worse, ranking in around 24th in the league. Cole Haynos a wide receiver turned running back started to shine towards the end of the season after Walker Moe went down. Moe was starting to look good and act like a dominant back, but his season ended short. The two combined for 1,000 yards on 200 carries and 9 touchdowns. The defense didn't fare as well, sitting in the bottom half for all four statistical categories. Houston, Vernon, and JPP all managed 10+ sacks on the season, and Apple had a team lead 6 Interceptions.

The Defense will be going through a change, as coach Jeremy Shockey has decided to switch over to a 3-4 style defense where they can mask blitzes and zone coverages. This is going to be trickey as both JPP and Vernon are better suited for 4-3 end spots, they will have to prove if they can handle the switch. Hankins should be fine in a 3-4 Nose Tech position, but there could still be room to upgrade.

These are but just some samples of what is to come from the New York Giants Football Club. If their story ends up being a successfull one, depends more on the drive of its players and coaches, then who pen'ed the best team.
