TBA21 Draft Profile | EDGE Urick Cherry

Urick Cherry

Edge Rusher | Temple University

Urick Cherry grew up on the streets of Philadelphia where he got involved with the wrong crowd at a young age. His family was always in a state of poverty so he had to do what he had to do to get by. He spent many years of his teenage years in the Juvenile correction system.

Fortunately for Urick, he ended up being taken under the wing of a Philadelphia High School football coach who saw the potential in Urick. He made sure Urick’s family was able to put food on the table and he became close family friends with them.

This allowed Urick to focus on his development in the classroom and on the football field. He was able to put the work and time in at the gym and developed into a formidable edge rusher for the Tornadoes. While they were never able to win a championship, his talent was obvious and Temple took note.

Urick was able to obtain a full-ride scholarship from Temple where he became a star. Just like in high school, the team was never able to really achieve success, but Urick’s talent was enough to stand out. By the end of Urick’s four year college career, he was able to accumulate 28.5 sacks.

He was able to complete his degree in Sports Management, becoming the first in his family to obtain a degree.

Mel's Comparison: Cherry is a standout at his position , with increidble speed he could work formidably as a 3-4 edge rusher or a 4-3 defensive end. Danielle Hunter-esque.

TBA21 Draft Profile | HB Delroy Shaw

Delroy Shaw

Running Back | Rutgers

Delroy Shaw grew up in a small Jamaican village, Sherwood Content, also home to Usain Bolt. It must be something in the water, because like Usain he was unnaturally quick.

The Shaw family was extremely poor, and Del was kicked out of the private Waldensia Primary school due to his family’s failure to pay tuition fees.

After the expulsion, his parents decided that they would try to leave Jamaica for a better life in America.

The first attempt came when Shaw was twelve years old.

The family gathered enough money to pay a smuggler to try to get them on American soil near Key Largo. The plan didn’t go as planned, and the family was apprehended by the USCG along the way. The smuggler was arrested and the rest of the group was repatriated.

Two years passed before his parents tried again, this time they succeeded. They eventually made their way to NJ due to favorable immigration laws, specifically related to DACA. Del was able to attend high school in Newark, NJ, and played running back well enough to receive offers from multiple schools, including hometown Rutgers.

Shaw was redshirted his Freshman year. He finally became the starting RB for the Scarlet Knights in his sophomore year, putting together a respectable 315 yards in two games before coming down with Turf Toe. This injury would linger for the remainder of the season with him only being able to play two more games for the Knights.

After rehabilitating his toe, he returned his junior year as the starting running back again. He was able to remain healthy for the first 8 games before suffering a high ankle sprain which would end his season. Before the injury he was able to average close to 120 yards per game. This was enough to get scouts attention.

Shaw came back for his senior year and was finally able to remain healthy throughout. He ended up winning Big Ten Running Back of the Year finishing with 2,002 yards on the season.

He decided to forgo his final year of eligibility.

Mel’s Comparison: Shaw is a bit undersized for the pro game at only 5’9”, but makes up for the detriment with incredible burst, agility, and top end speed. Shaw could burden the load of a bell cow back, but will most likely serve as a 3rd down receiving type back. Tarik Cohen with more oomph.

TBA21 Draft Profile | QB Trace Jasper

Trace Jasper

Quarterback | Alabama

The most important aspect of Jasper’s recruiting will be the debate centered on his health. Jasper, who came to Alabama as the top high school prospect in the nation, made an instant impact when he was pegged to start his Redshirt Sophomore year. At one point during his first year, one would say that they’re watching the best pro prospect since Andrew Luck, as Jasper was on track to smash NCAA and school records.

That’s when tragedy stuck.

Trace Jasper and his girlfriend had set off for a beautiful picnic after his week 9 win over Clemson, just outside Alpine Hills in the Woodland Forest, when a nude vagrant approached the couple with a knife. Jasper, leaving his girlfriend behind to meet her tragic end to this naked felon, fled the scene. It wasn’t until a later police report and medical evaluation that it was discovered that Jasper had torn his ACL and rotator cuff while escaping.

Jasper missed the rest of his Sophomore season and half of his Junior year, and with the surprise emergence of Freshman QB Lawrence Fish during the starter’s absence, Jasper returned to find his job in jeopardy. Through hard work and determination, Jasper won his job back and proceeded to take the SEC by storm, leading Alabama to two straight Championship appearances.

Jasper has underwhelmed when comparing his career post-injury to what could have been prior to the loss of his girlfriend at the hands of the fleshly marauder. Posting numbers nowhere near what he had prior to the injury, Jasper is now poised to be a 2nd or 3rd round quarterback with a chip on his shoulder.

Mel’s Comparison: In the right system, Jasper could emerge as the top thrower in this year’s class, but is a blast-from-the-past prospect, excelling at throwing from the pocket rather than roll-outs. If a team is looking for a great football mind, fantastic game manager, and one of the best arms we’ve seen in years, then Jaspers the guy. I could confidently state that he will fail, but only if drafted into a West Coast or scrambling quarterback system. Matt Ryan with much more risk, but potentially higher reward.

TBA21 Draft Profile | The Mullins Brothers

The Mullins Brothers

Secondary | North Carolina

For the first time in the history of the NFL, three brothers who took the NCAA by storm enter the NFL draft.

Born in rural North Carolina, the Mullins brothers dreamt of one day playing for the North Carolina Tarheels. Decked out in Michael Jordan and Vince Carter jerseys throughout their childhood, the three boys, separated by one year, hoped to one day make their way through March Madness and win a basketball championship like the heroes they grew up worshipping.

It wasn't until eldest brother entered high school that the family found a new love, football. Davonte Mullins stepped into a starting role Freshman year for Albemarle High School, and immediately became a player to watch in North Carolina newspapers around the state. Mullins, playing as both reciever and cornerback, lead AHS to the Yadkin Valley State 1A Championship.

As a Sophomore, Davonte was joined by middle brother Trey, who instantly stepped in as the high school's starting Running Back and Free Safety as a Freshman. On their way to a second state championship, Trey and the Mullins family had a scare after Trey was carted off the field after a hard hit that left him motionless on the field.

The injury, which only turned out to be a stinger and concussion, prompted youngest brother Vernon to pursue basketball, even though the family height would prove to be an issue for long term success. Trey returned to the field to start the next season with Davonte, and the two lead Albemarle to their third state championship.

After excelling in basketball for three years, and another championship for both Davonte and Trey, Vernon decided to join Trey for his final season. Immediately upon stepping on the field, coaches at Albemarle High School knew that they had something special in Vernon.

A legacy was born, with all three brothers accepting scholarships to play football at the University of North Carolina, with youngest Vernon getting a spot as a freshman starter shooting guard on the basketball team, as well.

Fast forward, and now all three brothers are prepared to enter into the NFL draft after Vernon's second year suiting up for the Tarheels, in which he recieved a bid as a Heisman finalist as a redshirt Sophomore, after posting a whopping 12 interceptions in his second season, and 22 interceptions over the two. Davonte and Trey have also excelled, albeit not to the same level, regularly finishing among the best at their respective positions.

Mel’s Comparison: Youngest Vernon Mullins is the most interesting defensive back to enter the draft since Charles Woodson, though his skillset more matches that of Champ Bailey. Oldest Davonte has low top-end speed, but quickness that compares to his brother and according to some scouts, the intelligence to out-exceed his youngest brother in the pros. Trey is the, excuse me here, worst of the three... but that doesn't mean he also won't be a day one starter in the NFL. Trey's history of concussion started in high school, but remained an issue throughout his career.

TBA21 Draft Profile | K Nguyen Minh Thang

Nguyen Minh Thang

Kicker | UNLV

Nguyen Minh Thang's paternal great grandparents lived in a Vietnamese bamboo weaving village, Cu Chi in Southern Vietnam. They ended up emigrating to the United States during the Vietnam War. They ended up living in San Francisco in Little Saigon. That is where they had Nguyen’s father, Mac Xuan Thang who was a natural athlete.

While Mac Xuan Thang was a natural athlete at all sports, his biggest passion was soccer. He ended up trying out for the Mexican professional soccer club, Cruz Azul. He ended up spending most of his prime years bouncing around the Mexican soccer league, Liga MX. After suffering a career ending knee injury, he ended up  moving back to Little Saigon in Orange County, California. That is where he met his wife, Vuu Quynh Hurong. After about three years, they ended up having their first and only child, Nguyen Minh Thang.

Like his father, Nguyen Thang was a natural athlete. He enrolled in St. Margaret's Episcopal School to play soccer. After four great seasons, he attracted attention from several Division I colleges who were interested in his talents. He received a scholarship offer from USC to play soccer, but instead chose a scholarship opportunity from UNLV to become their kicker for the football program.

Thang was the punter and the placekicker for the 2021 season. Thang averaged 44.3 yards on 65 punts, the second-best season average in school history. Thang ended the 2024 season kicking 24-for-24 on field goals and 42–43 (98%) on extra points for 114 total points. Thang scored a career-high 17 points with four field goals and five extra points against Hawai’i.

Mel’s Comparison: Justin Tucker or Greg Zuerlein. This kid will be an instant difference maker.

The Jazzy Jets: Are They Here To Stay?

After years of building, scheming, and losing, the New York Jets have returned.

By Jon Snow | TBA News

NEW YORK, NY - A season and a half of rebuilding has brought the Jets to a 9-4 record, and a clear shot for the second seed in the AFC.

Front runner for comeback coach of the year coach Randy Dandy is proving that he deserves to be discussed among the elite.

Dandy, who's offense includes a dual threat running attack featuring veteran Tevin Coleman and real rookie Tay Donald, was asked to comment on the success the two backs have been seeing.

“I believe everything starts in the trenches," Dandy replied. "We went out and drafted an OG this season. Getting some depth and skill there has opened holes for our backs. “

When asked about relationship between the veteran and the rookie, and the leadership of Coleman, coach replied, “having a guy who’s been there before has impacted my team in great ways. He’s a leader, and a hell of a good back at that”.

And the emerging coach has also built an incredible defense that rivals some of the best in Jets' history.

“It’s all about scheme and finding the best fit," said Dandy.  "Great young linebackers with speed that allows them to play great run and pass defense. Game planning and adjusting has made the biggest difference and those young men go out and get the job done each and every day.”

Dandy and the Jets have a long road ahead, but the team seems to be finally headed in the right direction.

2020 Draft | What To Do With Dusty Keyek?

Dusty Keyek

Quarterback | Virginia Tech

Dusty Keyek is quite the prospect, but as we know by now, it’s for all the wrong reasons.

Keyek, Junior quarterback from Virginia Tech, made national news prior to the start of his Sophomore season after being accused of robbing a Blacksburg, Virginia convenience store at gunpoint.

Keyek, the son of longtime Virginia Senator Richard Keyek, was a standout prospect from Fork Union Military Academy (VA), and an immediate starter as a Freshman for the Hokies.

After sitting his Sophomore season due to an ongoing trial, Keyek returned to the team for his Junior year. Albeit there are questions as to why the charges in Keyek’s case were dropped, due to his revolutionary arm strength, Keyek was given his starting spot back.

Keyek, who was immediately tossed out of NFL consideration following the accusations levied against him, has seemingly played his way back into consideration with his leading of Virginia Tech to a 1-loss record and first round playoff exit.

Will any teams be willing to gamble their reputation on what could be the future face of their franchise? We will see tomorrow.

Mel’s Comparison: Josh Allen, with better accuracy and reads… but with hefty character concerns.

2023 TBA Draft | The Un-Traditional Approach

Taj Burrell

Offensive Lineman |  Worcester Warriors (UK)

Leading up to signing day as a high school senior at Edward White HS (Jacksonville, FL), Taj Burrell was unsure with what he wanted to do with his future. Here he was, a massive 18-year-old at 6'6" and close to 350 pounds with a clear future as a professional football player in his lap, but Burrell couldn't shake memories of his childhood, growing up playing rugby in Powick, England, a town just outside Worcester in southern UK.

With interest from Clemson, Alabama, and many other top-tiered college programs, the top-5 rated high school offensive lineman, in a risky decision, chose instead to return to his hometown to follow his childhood dream of becoming a rugby player.

Burrell, who's athleticism and toughness in high school drew comparisons to the likes of NFL Hall of Famers such as Willie Roaf, quickly became a promising prospect within rugby circles. The decision to go an alternative route proved well for Burrell, with the game of rugby allowing the hopeful to showcase his unnatural strength and athleticism.

Once eligible for the draft, questions began to pop up discussing whether Burrell would declare for the TBA draft when he became of age, noting that his size wouldn't sustain longterm success as a rugby player. Now of age, that time is now, and it's pretty clear that Burrell has his sights set on the big league.

Mel's Comparison: While he's a raw prospect, don't be suprised if he goes on to have an incredible career. There's not much to base off of him due to his lack of experience against skilled competition, but based on pure athletic explosiveness and strength, he'll be picked during the top half of the first round. If all the pieces come together, he should be another Brandon Brooks.

2023 TBA Draft | The Enigmatic Aggie

Sidney Harper

Quarterback | New Mexico State

Every few years, a prospect comes out of nowhere to shock the world. Absolutely nobody could have predicted the astronomical rise and success of New Mexico State sensation Sidney Harper.

Harper, a Santa Fe, New Mexico native was graded as only the 47th ranked ATH by 247Sports after his senior year at St. Michaels HS (Santa Fe). After being redshirted for his first season at New Mexico State, Harper found a fit as the team's number one slot reciever.

After the tragic bus accident that left a New Mexico State football team decimated with over 30 players with varying degree of injury in Harper's Junior year, New Mexico state football coach Doug Martin shockingly announced the team would continue on with it's season with the slot reciever under center.

In Harper's first game of the season, the Aggies, on the shoulders of the newly crowned QB1, dominated UCLA and never took their foot off the pedal. Harper went on to massacre teams both in the air and on the ground, leading him to amass over 3,700 passing yards, 32 TDs and 11 INTs in the air, while running for over 1,200 yards and 19 TDs. It should be noted that Harper has never been able to get his ball protection perfected, with 11 fumbles lost this season.

Now sitting with a 12-0 record and a shoe-in for the College Football Playoffs, Sidney Harper looks to complete the Disney-like script of a season with a National Championship to go along with his probable Heisman award. It would be unfair to compare Harper to any current quarterback, but with reciever-like speed and agility and a cannon of an arm, Harper's future 30 for 30 is only getting started.

Mel's Comparison: With speed and size that only rivals Lamar Jackson, it would be the only fair comparison. He has a lot of ground to cover to gain my trust on scrambles, but his arm makes up for his naivety.

Positional Analysis

*All Projections are my thoughts only, I don’t have any knowledge of ratings or development traits

QB

Synopsis: VERY top heavy QB draft, with Marcus Curtis being the #1 overall player and Theodore Burroughs being another top 15. However, the drop off is huge, most likely not another QB drafted until the 4thround after.

1.    Marcus Curtis 6’4” 231 Projected 74 Overall SS Dev-X-factor

a.    A+; Throw Power

b.    A; Throw Acc. Short

2.    Theodore Burroughs 6’4”72 Overall Star Dev

a.    A+; THP

b.    A; TH Acc. Short

RB

Synopsis: This could possibly be the worst RB back I’ve every scouted. With no “First round” backs we should see at least 10 being drafted in rounds 2-4.

1.    George Hudson 5’10’’ 198

a.    A-; Carrying

b.    B+; Spin

c.    B; Juke

2.    Raymond Bodden

FB

Synopsis: HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

WR

Synopsis: We could see a possible 6-7 WRs drafted in the first round this year. With the Top two possible going in the top 7. Also very sneaky good WRs in rounds 3-5.

TE

Synopsis: With four “First Round” projected TEs this is average class for TE, for the simple fact that all four “First Round” TEs were scouted below their draft rankings.

1.    Desmond Powell 6’6” 246

a.    C+; Catching

b.    C; Short Route

c.    C-; Med Route

OL

Synopsis: For OL in general there are only 4 “First Round” rated players for the OL. The OL class is going to be disappointing if you need Tackle help, the meat of the class is in the interior OL.

a.    A; Run BLK Finesse

b.    A-; Pass Block

DE

Synopsis: For DE’s in this Draft, there are a lot of Diamonds in the rough. Manny being scouted over from their rating. I would say wait on getting a DE, in the later rounds or trade back and get players or picks to improve your team. There are only 2 rated “First Round” picks

1.    Rashard Lanker 6’4” 293

a.    B+; Hit Power

DT

Synopsis: The DL class overall is poor, but the DTs in this class hope can elevate the class. With Floyd Dockery being the gem of it all, and many other gems in the later rounds, I say either trade up and get Dockery or wait later for Lynn Holman or Raysean McCann.

1.    OLB James Fleming 6’0” 239

a.    B+; Pursuit

b.    B+; Tackle

c.    B+; Hit Power

2.    Malik Ducan

a.    B+; Pursuit

b.    B-; Tackle

c.    C+; Block Shed

MLB

Synopsis: Finally, the stars of this 2020 Draft Class, the deepest positional group and possible the best talented. If you need a MLB I would do what you can to get one, they will flying off the board quick and early, with Lionel Tucker going top 3 in the draft.

1.    Lionel Tucker 6’3” 230 Projected 75 XFactor Dev

3.    Joey McMillian 5’11” 232

a.    A-; Tackle

b.    B+ P. Recognition

c.    B+; Awareness

CB

Synopsis: With very poor scouting grades the CB looks to be a one man show in Brandon Whitfield. With the fasted CB in the draft and pretty much dominating the Combine, if your targeting a CB, do what you can to Whitfield because with the rest of the class looking like duds.

1.    Brandon Whitfield 6’2” 184

a.    B; Press

b.    B+; Awareness

c.    B; Man Cov.

2.    Trevor Hairston 6’2” 184

a.    B+; M. Cov

b.    B; Press

c.    C; Zone Cov.

Safety

Synopsis: This positional group is a two man race with Mosses Sampson and Marcus Jackson both being rated as “First Round” talent. FS Mosses Sampson is the better of the two, scouting wise, but you never know with madden. Just like many other positions in this draft class, you may want to wait for later round gems.

1.    FS Mosses Sampson 5’10” 219

a.    B; Awareness

b.    B; Hit Power

c.    B; Man Cov.

2.    Marcus Jackson

a.    B; Pursuit

b.    B-; Hit Power

c.    B- Man Coverage

FINAL SYNOPSIS

This draft comes down to the TOP 2 QBs, the loaded MLB group and the overwhelming of WR talent. Other than MLBs this defensive class is very poor, unless you get top talent in the group. Interior OL will reign supreme in the OL group, and we will see who value them. Waiting on Running Backs might be the trend, as well as the Defensive Back class other than Whitfield. Its going to be a WILD RIDE.

TOP 10 MOCK

1.    Raiders: QB Marcus Curtis

2.    Texans (via Cardinals): QB Theodore Burroughs

3.    Cowboys (vis Bucs): MLB Lionel Tucker

After a great start, San Francisco falters against rival Arizona

The season began with a loss to perennial great Baltimore after a horrible performance from the Russian Railgun, Simon Milanovich in which the team lost defensive leader Sharrif Floyd. Following the game, Tony Siragusa requested the front office to get him help along his defensive front. After shopping for about 20 hours, they returned with first round fantasy pick JJ Watt to strengthen their defensive line. JJ brought a new dynamic to the line, picking up two forced fumbles in his first game with the team, along with 8 sacks in his four games so far, but the coaching staff had some trouble calling plays with him actually in the game. In the start of each game, Defensive Coordinator Sergei Gonchar forgot to call Watts name and sent out 10 players rather than the required 11, allowing big gains for 49ers opponents. Sergei Gonchar was recommended by Simon Milanovich's agent Vladimir because the defensive ability he was able to show on the ice while playing in the NHL. So far, it hasn't translated well to the NFL.

Gonchar and his defense had their worst showing yet when facing the aforementioned rival, the Arizona Cardinals, allowing 52 points. But he wasn't the problem, as it hardly mattered since Siragusa's offense was only able to put 7 on the board. By the end of the game, Ninerds in the stands were chanting "Milano-PICK" after the former Rookie phenom threw another 5 picks to bring the season total to an astounding 14 interceptions in 5 games. After the game, Milanovich told RML News that he hopes to replace the starter cables that his nipples broke so he can get back into the groove.

Will the 49ers be able to turn it around and contend for the playoffs, even with a juggernaut of a schedule for the next 8 weeks? Check back in with RML News as the season progresses.

BREAKING: Colts WR JJ Walters expected to leave RML after one season

After a league-wide press release was issued by Ben Finkelstein, the agent of surprise phenom JJ Walters, it is becoming apparent that the rookie WR will not be participating in the 2019 RML season. Finkelstein writes that his client, JJ Walters, has already proven to the world his football abilities and would like to use his athletic prime for another sport... professional bowling. Walters, who regularly bowls a whopping 296 on average, is taking a leave through his retirement clause in his contract to pursue the sport nearest and dearest to his heart.

Walters, who set RML records with his rookie performance, left a strong impact on both the fans of the Indianapolis Colts with his close to 100 receptions and over 2000 yards. Along with his force-fed reception and yardage numbers is a record-breaking year in receiving touchdowns, breaking the record previously held by Randy Moss.

It will be exciting to watch what Walters can do in the PBA, which can be seen Sunday Mornings on ESPN2. Along with the bowling, Walters hopes to perfect his art of oil painting to become a commissioned painter. RML Media has reached out to the Colts front office, but their phone was left off the hook. A pigeon has been sent with an SOS for comment.

Update: The Colts are actively looking for an offseason trading partner to acquire the rights to WR JJ Walters if he decides to return to RML.
