In a remacth of 2 weeks prior , things almost repeated itself. This time those heavy and hard hits on AP didnt result in fumbles for TD's and the Browns bend but dont break Defense heald it together to stop a late 4th quater push by the chiefs.
You can point to 3 major plays that kept the next playoff round out of the hands of Coah Edwards team.
1) An early redzone picked in the flats to Kelce, which looking back at the tape showed FB sherman as wide open and ready for the TD . Instead the pass was sent to the TE just above him on a tight pattern , which was intercepted by the speedy OLB.
2) AP break out 50 yard run helped add some needed distance in the score box. On a counter up the gut AP blasted up the middle balzing by blitzing line backers and passed an off balanced Berry for a long TD.
3) Still the game was in the chiefs hands, but a late 3rd and long dropped pass by Kelce on a glancing hit proved to be the nail in the coffin.
It is nice to know that the team betaing the chiefs is coached by one of the best in the SFL , and credit should be given to coach AC for preveting late game blunders.
As we move to the off season I don't suspect any major moves, the team is set for a title run over the next few years but I do expect a few moves here and there to sure up the O line ,WR core, and the Dline.
I could also see the draft setting up the future , as the older vets on the team move closer to the end of their careers.
Thank you for tuning in this season to the SFLtimes online reports , and please tune in beofre SB 50 as we tlak to coach edwards on his preditions of SB 50 and his reactions to his first succesful season in many years.

"What we have accomplished as a team and as a family is more important to me than where we stand once the playoffs hit" Coah edwards was in preaching mode durring this weeks light work out.
Looking towards the last game in the season , coach Edwards said he will sit his top guys after the second half, and may even sit a few more beofore the start of the game. " rest is the up most importantace to us at this point in the season. I have full confidnece in our second and third teams to pick up the salck and secure a home game for us and a W".
Looking back on this season one can see how this team couldve gone undefeated , with a few miss ques in their only loses . "Thats a testiment to our coacing staff and team leaders, to continue to challange every one on a daily basis." this was according to new assitant head coach Denny Green.
As we move to the post season keep your eyes open for a full SFL season recap and a look to SB 50.
" over an out "
In whats been a season to remember up to ths point, the Chiefs have found a way to matter again . Theyare doing this in a league where everyone seems to be a competitior and stars arent the only way to win anymore.
Alex, how can you explain this sudden rise from medicore to tops in their division? " Hard work, effort, coaching, and finally finding a coach who can use all of our stregnths . under coach Reid we couldnt maximize each others talents , caoch edwards has allowed to just play ball the way w eknow how."
Travis, how do you thinkyou guys have gotten to this level in such a short amount of time? " I think we've always been a good team, bu when you have alot of moving parts in key areas of our team, it makes for a hard time to gel. I also have benefited from a serious run attahck that has opened lanes for me up and down the field.
Charles, What are we going to do when we hit the playoffs again, and you see all those fans and think back on al the flauiles the chiefs have absorbed through out the years? " I try not to think to much, if i do that ill never be able to run with a clear mind."
Guys , how have the rookies played a role in this successes? " Our kids have really stepped up more so then ever before here in KC. Our young wide outs and DB's have allowed us to capitalize on key momenst where in the past we were just too old to compete. They have that extra soemtimes needed to close out games. We love their skills and owe them a lot for this teams immidiate and long term success and goals. Said the 10 year vet Smith."
With Injuires to Smith on the BD core there was going to be a need for someone to speak up and take the reins. Gaines and Parker have out done themelves and really showed and show what hard work and film can do for a players psyche."
As I caught the guys heading back to the locker room, after whats been a wild few weeks i couldnt help but notice that even though they feel that their work isnt done, the team has already accomplished more now then they have in the last decade of seasons past.
Here's to next weeks bye and a break down of the cheifs season up to this point.
cheers SFL Times readers for now...
Along with the kickoff of the 2015 regular season for Kansas City, Sunday featured a new crop of familiar faces, former teammates, former coaches and friends on the field. Former Chiefs head coach and now Texans defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel was among them. " They played great, Coah Edwards did his thing and my guys weren't ready at all.. " A grumpy Crennel seemed defeated even after the game was well over, but with no steady QB play for the foreseeable furture and Foster out for at least 4 weeks , once can see his pain and why it isn't going away anytime soon. His D will have to play more downs than usualy and lights out for the next few weeks just to keep above water.
On the other side of things...
" Now this is how you win! hard nose defense , commiment from each person to your left and right , and knowing how to execute." A portion of coach Edwards talk after his first opening season win in many years. As I looked along side the rest of the beat guys you couldnt help but notice how reactive this version of Hermans chiefs are compared to years past.
There were many highlights on the chiefs side of the ball this week, as both Offense and Defense showed that the preseason 3-1 reccord wasn't a fluke. It'll be interesting to see how the season plays out for Herms men, but if today was any indication they are ready for a fight this year. The blance of old and new is what was always missing from his prior stints and with a more fundemental based approach, we should see Arrow Head stadium as it once was , a real home field advantage.
Stay tuned for more as we have our preseason wrap party to explore , predcitions and comments from the rest of the crew here in Kansas City. And finally words from our SFL times home base crew on the whole SFL season.

" Everyone is aslways looking for that second chance, you know, the chnace to re-write their past. "I've loved coaching and always felt my time in the league was too short, but family matters and a tough few seasons made it time for me to relax a bit."
As the day went on one could tell that the atmosphere at arrow head had changed, and just maybe so has the teams outlook on this year and beyond. Coach edwards signed a 3 year deal in excess of 13 mil over those 3 years which include a performance bonus related to playoff wins.
This will be cach Edwards second go around with the Cheifs, the last time he hit the field was in 2009, with a deflated group of under achiving rookies and a GM who was on the outs .
Coach Edwards last day with ESPN was bitter sweet, but he left the set happy that day ready to extend his legacy beyond his quirky jokes , and continune his insightful info but now from the headset and not behind the camera.
In the following weeks we will go behind the scenes of training camp and follow coach through the season as part of his deal wiht ESPN and the Cheifs.
Next week we sit down with coach and talk over how training camp went and what his expectations are of his new cheifs.
Over N Out
As we near the playoff push and the conculison of another regular season i'd like to post some of my choices for league awards ( not using madden stats as the only difinitive barometor but also PLAYVER VS PLAYER GAMES NOT CPU VS PLAYER) and how this season may just play out...
Rookie of the year- J
He's been a great addition to the league and has brought the raiders back from the dead! Runner up Chan.
Vet of the year- Q
As usual he's running through his competiton with ease and is probably on pace to face LB again for the title. Runner up LB
Most improved -Jack
From the bowels of the AFC - to playoff contender , Jack has risen from the ashes and brought steel town back, lets hope he's here to stay. Runner up TURK
Most dissapointing - Cam
This was a tough one as there are many bottom feeders I could've choosen from, but Cam seems to whoop some serious CPU butt but cant seem to hold his own even against goins... runner up Phinsfan & leaf
Up and Coming - Turk
If he can find a way not to beat himslef turk can run thw west, plain and simple. Runner up Young
As for the league as a whole....
Playoff out look:
With a few more games left we can see how things are rounding out, but none the less its going to be fun down the stretch
AFC Champ game :
Ravens VS Raider ( if J can play his playoff games)
NFC Champ game
Falcons VS Rams
Superbowl
Ravens VS Rams
Rams winning it all
I think LB hits a wall against pops and his tough D, but if LB can get the ball going on the running side of things , pops will be in for it.

Leading into a bye week its always important to head with a win, but never more so for the purplexing Cheifs.
The chiefs on paper have one of the best teams in the league, but we all know games aren't won on paper or stat sheets. Whats been labeld as a slow start, seems more like the first 4 rounds of a fight between unfimiliar foes, than anything else.
Good thing for the chiefs the pleasantries of the opening rounds should be over, with week 5's victory over the ever struggling Browns.
" I believe this is the begging of a nice run for us, or hardest section of the scheudle is over." this was according to new GM Rick. " We've put together a nice balance of Vets between retention and free aagency, my only regret is not solidifying dewanye Bowe, but i never had a chance"
Enter Vets Larry Fitzgerald and recent trade accquzition Hakeen Nicks. " these guys again showed us why we needed them and why our GM gets our master plan" Coach cherry has been gushing about these 2 for since season inception , and been patienctly waitng for them to come up big, as they did this week.
" Numbers arent everything, but when we are calledupon we must and do react, there no deny us and our will , i want and ring and hakeem feels he can help oush us over the edge".
Both did well today, racking in big grabs to set up a key TD to Marcedes Lewis, the only passing TD fo the game.
" In all honesty, the game ball goes to Jammal , he can ball. With out his consistency I dont know what we would do. Wiht out it wouldnt have matter what Fitz and I did today, hes the real hero in all of this." And... in all honesty who can disagree wiht Nicks, he had well over 250 yards today with 2 TD's . Hes over 600 yards for the year and we're not even at the half way point.
" The ball is in our court, and its our job to steer coach Cherry's ship in the right direction" Turner went on, " we must act now and build on this, it starts with me and my game preps, i'm looking forward to what coach trent has added to the playbooks going into the rest of this season too. As I now feel I have finally gotten a soild grip on everying."
Alot can be said and not said at this point in the season, but you wouldnt know wiht this group, as they look focused on making a run no matter what.
We'll see you guys next week for our player intervews , starring Turner and Jammal.
Cheifs POW:
2016 Regular Season | Rushing | Receiving
WK | GAME | RESULT | Att | Yds | Avg | Lng | TD | Rec | Yds | Avg | Lng | TD
5 | Cle@ KC | 14-21 | 27 | 259 | 6.0 | 100 | 2 | 2 | 4 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
" This one Hurts" , this was according to head coach Cherry today. In what was labeled as a battle of the power Defenses, it was a 2pt conversion that never was that chnage this game.
With the ability to go for a 2-pt conversion to keep the game a full TD ahead leading into the 4th- which at that point wasnt needed, cheifs were up, but only 6-, cherry deciced to play it safe with an extra point. " That move may have killed us" , per O coordinator Trent Green.
The Cheifs should've kicked a game tieing filed goal durring their late game surge , thanks in part to Marcel Lewis huge 30 yard catch. " That kick should've propelled us into OT,insteaded we had to go for it on 4th and goal" According to injured starting TE Kelece. " But im okay with Coaches conviction in his decesion."
Rumors are swirlling thought, as this is their heavest part of the season, Pathers, Falcons, and the always savy Browns before the by week.
" We need to weather this trio of games and look to gain some momentum going into the bye week" this was while Turner Quinn is a batling from a heavy brised hand that kocked him out of the game. Albeit the same hand that was injured during the preseason.
" Glad we have drew, hes the best I've ever seen at being prepared " Turner Contiuned " With out him I dont know where we would be , hes helped keep us togetther and teach that as things get harder so must we." Wise words that Tuenr should heed to, hes been trying to pull himself together, but many think his small frame may not beable to handle the long haul of an NFL season, time will tell if Maybe, just maybe, KC should've opted for Pittsburgs big guy instead.
Blantly quick during post game interviews was Star Running back Charles, who seemed very dissapointed in his teams performance, but always points to himself as a reason for a loss. " I feel this one is on me, I should've socred at least 1 TD today, thats all that we needed to get the W. A player of my skill should have no excuses for throwing up a goose egg."
Overall, the feeling in the locekr room is still upbeat, they feel that when they do make the playoffs they'll be ready for whats to come, as the blistering Raiders have a very week scedule this year which is why most feel that they are posers, at this point.
But you cant sit here and play that game , one must realize they came in and routed the chiefs their first go around , week 11 will be pivotal as thats the next time they will meet up and more than likey set the tone for the playoff picture out west between these two.
Alot can happen between now and then, my thoughts are the riaders will ake the playoffs as the division leader with the chiefs battling for a wildcard spot with the Begals , Pats , and Colts. More than likey, these thoughts will be continued....
Happy football watching this week and we'll see you next week against the SB champ, Falcons!
Cheifs player of the week:
Drew Brees, coming in to almost save the day:

This weeks visit take us to the New head Coach of the (1-1) Chiefs Deron Cherry . Every week we will intervew a newplayer of the Cheifs in hopes to give our fans an inside look at whats making their guys tick.
Q: welcome coach how does it feel to be home?
D: Its nice, granted i'm a rutgers guy and miss my old jersey days, theres nothing like jumping back into the NFL for a new career in coaching.
Q: So whats the first thing you thought after jmping on board?
D: what a really nice facility we have here, I know it sounds silly but thats the first thing I said. The Kansas City Chiefs Training Facility expansion and renovation included a 75,000 square foot, three-story office building that houses the administrative and team offices of the Chiefs. The project also included a 75,000 square foot expansion and renovation to the team training facilities, including locker rooms, practice field, hydrotherapy facilities, and cafeteria.
Q: your next immidate thought?
D: How soon can i get these men in pads, hahaha
Q; hahhaa , you seem excited about this group:
D: I am, we have some of the best players in the NFL hands down. From our running back all the way to our linebackers, everyone has been or is a probowler / proven player.
Q: whats your season goals ?
D: Win our division and make a run at the title, no doubt about it.
Q: Biggets Hurddle at this point:
D: Getting the guys to connect on the fundementals of the game, this , along with their individual confidence is key for our growth.
Q: How has your HOF cred help you get along and teach your Star rookie QB, Turner ?
D: Kids has guts, and wit. Hes played with a broken finger and bruised ribbs and didn't say a word until this week. With the help of Brees behind him hes got the sky and stars to look at for potential. Hes been a pleasure to work with and gels extremly well with everyone.
Q: One last question coach before we go, as I know you have a big game to prepfor. Whos your biggest threat and advisary this season?
D: Threat? My self . I believe, over thinking at certains points of the game can kill a coach. Advisary , my D and O coordinators without them, I'd be lost in the sauce!.. haha
Q: thanks for your time coach , and tune in next week as we will be inetrviewing Charles & Turner , your Star QB and RB.
Cheers!
