Along with the kickoff of the 2015 regular season for Kansas City, Sunday featured a new crop of familiar faces, former teammates, former coaches and friends on the field. Former Chiefs head coach and now Texans defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel was among them. " They played great, Coah Edwards did his thing and my guys weren't ready at all.. " A grumpy Crennel seemed defeated even after the game was well over, but with no steady QB play for the foreseeable furture and Foster out for at least 4 weeks , once can see his pain and why it isn't going away anytime soon. His D will have to play more downs than usualy and lights out for the next few weeks just to keep above water.
On the other side of things...
" Now this is how you win! hard nose defense , commiment from each person to your left and right , and knowing how to execute." A portion of coach Edwards talk after his first opening season win in many years. As I looked along side the rest of the beat guys you couldnt help but notice how reactive this version of Hermans chiefs are compared to years past.
There were many highlights on the chiefs side of the ball this week, as both Offense and Defense showed that the preseason 3-1 reccord wasn't a fluke. It'll be interesting to see how the season plays out for Herms men, but if today was any indication they are ready for a fight this year. The blance of old and new is what was always missing from his prior stints and with a more fundemental based approach, we should see Arrow Head stadium as it once was , a real home field advantage.
Stay tuned for more as we have our preseason wrap party to explore , predcitions and comments from the rest of the crew here in Kansas City. And finally words from our SFL times home base crew on the whole SFL season.
