Mid-Season Report for the Jags

by tate.wetzel | 7 years ago | 0 Comments

At the half way point Jacksonville is sitting at 7-1. It’s their best start this madden but the road gets tougher in the second half. 6 of the remaining 8 games are on the road and they have dates against some UFL Hall of Famers.

The defense will be without Myles Jack for another 5 weeks. He was having a great season before getting injured. The offensive line is also down with the absence of Rod Johnson for a couple more weeks. Troy Sidney has stepped in and played well but Jack being out has really hurt the defense.

If the Jags want to continue winning games, Leonard Fournette needs to find his groove again. He has been limited most of the season but the pass game has picked up the slack. After week 8 DeShone Kizer led the league in yards and tds with 1924 yards and 21 tds. WR Rashad Owens has been dominating with 841 yards and 12 scores, while Francis Beck has been breaking out a little with 579 yards and 5 tds on 20 catches. In last two games he has 6 catches for 234 and 3 scores. With the attention on Owens, Beck has been able to get open.

Jacksonville’s defense hasn’t been as good as last season but has tallied 39 sacks. The are also 5th in scoring defense allowing 16 points per game. Rookie DeMarcus Ivey has been solid but still has a ways to go to being a difference maker. The pass rush has really made this defense thus far, if they want to be a contender they will need to improve their run defense. In their only loss they gave up a huge game to Joe Mixon.

Jags are looking forward to the rest of the season. Big match ups vs the Titans, Raiders and Packers but every game is big in the second half. Kizer continues to get better and should open up the run game more for Fournette. Next up are the walking wounded Vikings.
