Here is a little trivia for you. Who and when was the last time a rookie quarterback played with a rookie wide receiver with both being drafted by the same team in the first round of the same draft? The answer to that question is QB J.P. Losman & WR Lee Evans and both were drafted in the 1st round by the Buffalo Bills back in the 2004 NFL Draft.
Now, I am not saying that both of these players will have similar careers as QB J.P. Losman & WR Lee Evans. What I am saying though is that seeing a rookie quarterback and rookie wide receiver combo with both being drafted in the first round is more than rare. It's almost unheard of to have this happen. The most successful QB to WR combo with both players going to the NFL draft at the same time was QB Kurt Warner and WR Isaac Bruce back in 1994 and one was drafted on the first day of the draft and the other wasn't drafted at all. Further cementing how rare it is to see this occur.
"We have a rare but great opportunity to play on the same team with one another and we have the opportunity to establish something special here in New York" said QB Josh Cain. "We were both first round picks for a reason and both of us were drafted high. I am more than sure we will flourish and give the Giants faithful something to get excited about". QB Josh Cain, who is a strong armed, 6'4" 224lb Texas Longhorn product, has been given comparisons to QB Troy Aikman who had a similar build, similar attributes and even wore the same number of #8. Coincidently, the former Georgia Bulldog, WR Leio Doyle, is rocking #88 after his idol...you guessed it...WR Michael Irvin. Both have similar attributes as one another as well. What are the odds? "That would be lit if we could produce a similar output or just anywhere as close as Irvin and Aikman. I grew up a Cowboys fan so having both of us being compared to those two greats is a huge honor" said WR Leio Doyle. "There is not doubt in my mind that we will shine. We will learn and grow together and have great careers. Mark my words."
"I don't believe in letting a player sit so he can learn. The best way to learn is to get thrown into the fire and let them learn on the fly" said head coach Issei "The Broken One". "They are both clearly the best at their respective positions so both will start and we will see what kind of magic they can produce against the cream of the crop of football talent." That is the question remaining here. Will they produce hall of fame numbers and show the NFL something it has not seen before in NFL history? Or will they flame out and set the New York Giants back some years? We will just have to stay tuned and see.
