The Saints have always been considered a competent defensive team, this theory was put to the test severely against the defending champion Falcons who basically did whatever they wanted to on offense against a Saints team that did not have the answers. The Falcons running backs got 6-8 yards every time they got a carry regardless if they were apprehended in the backfield or not. It was a truly humbling experience for the home standing Saints.
Richard Boren was pretty accurate on the day when NO had the rock, throwing 12-15 for 146 and 2 TD’s and Mark Ingram ran for 73 yards. On defense, Jarius Byrd had 9 tackles, which tells you the truth about the ineptitude of the defense.
It gets no easier next week as the Saints continue the “Death Tour” (Atl,Car,Stl) against Carolina, who they always struggle with.
