The NFC Champ has been crowned and Malek finds himself back in the dance for the second straight season. Will he be able to finish the job this time for his first SFL championship? One of the formations that he has used along the journey is Gun Trey Open. Trey Open has done a great job for this Giants team specifically on 2nd and 3rd downs. One play that has paid huge dividends for the Giants is Salem.
While the play is called Salem, this is really a combination of Pivot and Dagger. What makes this play concept so dangerous is there are options for just about every coverage one will face. And no, this does not mean if you do not have this formation and play that you need to go add it. Establish your own identity and roll with that. The pivot route and the rounded Dig route are both going to beat man coverage, especially if you have abilities here like short out elite and Mid In Elite. The TE is #3 and running an interesting looking seam route and is probably a quick hitter when the trips are to the boundary and the defense is in cover 3 unless the Safety has Acrobat or the user carries the route of the seam. All in all good play selection by Malek and I look for him to use this play in the big game at least twice. It's a great way to put pressure on the defense both vertically and horizontally.
