Following one of the worst losses in SFL history at the hands of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Carolina Panthers looked to bounce back from the loss as they played host to the top seed in the NFC, the Arizona Cardinals.
Sitting at 9-7 on the year, the Panthers had no hope until the Miami Dolphins manged to defeat the San Francisco 49ers, putting Carolina in position to tie the bay area squad.
Queue up week 18, all or nothing for the Panthers. Kyler Murray and the Cardinals roll into town with a post-season bye wrapped up. Not wanting to have to shake off the rust of a two week break, the Cardinals played their starters all four quarters.
Carolina went up 10-0 quick before a few miscues found them down 14-10 to close out the first quarter.
"Out the gate we looked like we lacked energy," said Coach Charles in his post game presser. "thankfully Brian [Burns] and Jalen [Hurts] were able to rally the troops."
Defensive end Brian Bruns played his best game of the season, taking Kyler Murray down three times and constantly disrupting the offense. This played a crucial role in the victory, but none as big as the missed extra point by Arizona to allow the Panthers to escape with a 38-37 victory.
The post-season hopes for Carolina now reside with the Kansas City Chiefs as they need them to defeat the San Francisco 49ers to ensure themselves a playoff spot.
