BisonNews Journalist Shawn Crane here, checking in on the Buffalo Bills 2022 SFL Draft this past week.
Our bills truly didn't have a great draft. After trading away, well what most call ALOT of draft picks to get Aaron Donald away from LA buffalo only had 5 picks in this years draft. Those picks consisted of second round pick 43. Fourth round pick 107. Fifth round pick 139. Sixth round pick 171. Seventh round pick 203. Honestly picks 4-7 were terrible, but that's not what we're here to talk about. Let's talk about the steal.
His name is Nick Parrish, and he's a monster. Let's not get ahead of ourselves though, how did we get here? Let's go back to week 6 of the SFL schedule.
The bills are sitting at 1-5, after a terrible start to the season. The team has just changed the entire coaching staff around after firing former head coach Jim Kelley. New coach Cody Roberts made some questionable staff signings. One being a retired long snapper of the Green Bay packers dating back to the early 80s. Cody brought him in to be the defensive line coach, odd but it seems he knows what he's doing. This coach came in and instantly harassed the front office to take a look at this kid out of Temple that he had seen play in high school. That kid was Parrish.
Fast forward to the draft, opening night 5 Defensive linemen went off the board. Round 2 another three before pick 43. Then the kid that the bills had scouted and watched for nearly 20 weeks, was available to be picked.
After the pick meeting him in person, reporters said his ability didn't seem like anything crazy. He's not a star or superstar, but he's so smart. When he met with the team they realized just how knowledgeable about the game this kid is. Coach Cody said this about him, "If I had to grade his awareness and play recogintion about the game from 0-100 I'd rate him 99 for both."
The kid is a bull rush type player, and on this bolstered bills front he's going To make an imediate impact. The reason we call this kid the steal of the draft is a simple reason, after the draft reports for all teams came out, he was the highest rated player of the entire class.
Let's hope the Bills can develop Parrish into a Superstar one day. He might have the best person in the league to learn from in his now teammate Aaron Donald.
