Going into week 10 of season 3, the SFL heiracrchy is starting to take place. The following teams have made my top 10 in the Power Rankings:
1. Baltimore Ravens (8-0) - Before week 9, the Green Bay Packers were going to take this spot. With the Packers losing, Jbyrd and his Baltimore Ravens take the top spot and rightfully so. They are the reigning SFL champ, and the only unbeaten team left in the league. On the offensive side of the ball, The Ravens boast the 11th ranked offense in terms of yardage, 2nd ranked rushing offense, 5th highest in PPG, and 4th in rushing TDs. Defensively, they rank in the top 10 in lowest rush yards allowed, points allowed, and interceptions. They are also the 6th best team on 3rd down and they are 9th in the league in turnover differential. This shows they are a well-rounded team that will most certainly be in the mix for another league title.
Strong Wins- Steelers, Buccaneers, Browns, Chargers
Key Players: Lamar Jackson, Tevin Coleman, Hollywood Brown, Devin Duvernay, Bradley Bozeman, Patrick Queen, Jaylon Ferguson, Reed Blankenship, Marlon Humphrey
2. Green Bay Packers (7-1) - B and the Green Bay Packers are the other team and owner to claim a league title this cycle. Everyone knew an owner of B's caliber doesn't lose 15 games last season and it not be on purpose. Some take issue with it, I am one of those owners who do not. His team, his vision.....so let him do what he does. This season he his doing exactly what many of us expect him to do. Thats win, and win convincingly. I have a lot of regard for B when it comes to Madden and I still almost gave him the top spot. He has the 2nd ranked offense in terms of yards, 2nd ranked pass offense, 4th best in PPG, and he is 2nd in pass TDs. Defensively, he has the 4th best total defense, 5th ranked pass defense, top ranked defense in lowest points allowed per game, and he leads the league in INTs and QB tackles. He probably carries the most dominate team on both sides of the ball, however, the loss in week 9 and soft schedule places him at the second spot in these rankings.
Strong Wins- Eagles
Key Players- Jordan Love, Aaron Jones, Kyle Pitts, Jake Smith, Brandon Smith, Rashan Gary, Adrian Amos, Darnell Savage
3. Denver Broncos (8-1) - Q, another owner who I carry a very high regard for in Madden. He has the most league titles in SFL history and after missing the playoffs last season for the first time I have ever seen, he is back looking like his old self and dominating league games. He has his Denver Broncos as the 5th ranked total offense, 6th ranked pass offense, 2nd in PPG, and 4th in pass TDs. Defensively, he has the 9th ranked rush defense, 5th best defense in lowest PPG, 2nd in QB tackles, 1st in fumble recoveries, and 7th in INTs. He also is the 7th best team in redzone scoring and tops the league in turnover differential.
Strong wins- Browns, Titans, Chargers, Chiefs
Key Players- Drew Lock, Marquez Stevenson, Noah Fant, Von Miller, Bradley Chubb, Daxton Hill, Brandon McManus
4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (7-1) - I am not too familiar with Goon, but it seems pretty clear he is a top tier owner in the SFL. Although he is in that group of cheaters and stat padders, his track record this cycle and this season speak for itself. After losing 3 of his stars due to suspension, his team has not lost any rhythm whatsoever. His offense ranks 9th in total offense and 1st in rush offense. He is also 3rd in PPG and 6th in pass TDs. He ranks 8th in pass yards allowed, 4th in points allowed, 3rd in QB tackles, and 3rd in INTs on the defensive side of the ball. He is also very efficient as he is the 4th best team on 3rd down, 1st in the redzone, and 2nd in turnover differential. This team will make a run at another SB berth.
Strong Wins- Seahawks, 49ers
Key Players- Matt Corral, Leonard Fournette, Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Ryan Jensen, Alex Cappa, Joe Dahl, DeForest Buckner, Devin White, Andre Cisco
5. Dallas Cowboys (6-2) - Mike has his Dallas Cowboys ranked in the top 7 in every offensive team statistical category to include being tops in the league in 1st downs gained. This means he can straight grind your defense out if needed with Tony Pollard in that backfield. Defensively he was able to crack the top 10 in pass yards allowed, QB tackles, and fumbles recovered. He is also a top 10 team in 3rd down efficiency and redzone scoring. I expect the Cowboys to continue their strong season and be a difficult out for the "other" two in the NFC.
Strong Wins- Eagles
Key Players- Dak Prescott, Tony Pollard, Baylor Cupp, Amari Cooper, Tyler Linderbaum, Leighton Vander Esch, Nolan Smith,
6. Tennessee Titans (6-2) - It was difficult to rank them ahead of the Jacksonville Jaguars, but Matt has handed that team Ls the last two times they have faced off. That alone gives them the nod here at six. Offensively, nothing really jumps off the page as he his the lowest ranked offense in these rankings. However, he does boast the 7th ranked rush offense and 9th ranked scoring offense. He is also in the top 10 in rushing TDs and first downs gained. Defensivley he has the Titans in the top 10 in rush defense and PPG. This is not a "flashy" team like many in these rankings, but the Titans just stick around and are a very good team at making the right play at the right time. That will lead to success and success is what he is seeing.
Strong Wins- Jaguars, Browns
Key Players- Derrick Henry, Devonta Smith, Roger Saffold III, Laken Tomlinson, Aashari Crosswell, Braxton McFadden, Jayon Brown
7. Jacksonville Jaguars (8-1) - The Jacksonville Jaguars have rattled off 8 straight wins since dropping the season opener to the Titans. J feels he is getting back to his old self before his multi-year hiatus away from competitive Madden. In past Maddens he has always carried an explosive offense and finally here in season 3, his offense has become just that. The Jaguars are top ranked team in terms of offensive yardage. They are also tops in pass yards, PPG, and rush TDs. They rank 7th in the league in pass TDs, respectively. Defensively, they have struggled to stop opposing teams from moving the football. This is another reason they fall to seven in these rankings. Although they rank 2nd in the league in rush defense, they rank 31st in pass defense. However, they have been a very opportunistic defense. They rank 5th in QB tackles, 6th in fumble recoveries, and 2nd in INTs. They are also a top 5 team in redzone offense and top 10 team in redzone defense. It appears he has his defense looking like that dreaded bend but don't break type. The Jags just want to compete.
Strong Wins- Chargers, Chiefs
Key Players- Matthew Stafford, Derrius Guice, Wan'Dale Robinson, Corey Linsley, Josh Jones, Patrick Surtain Jr, Hamsah Nasirildeen, Josh Allen, K'Lavon Chaisson
8. Los Angeles Chargers (6-3) - LB, another owner with a strong and rich SFL history where multiple rings were claimed. He still remains a very strong owner who should continue to remain in these power rankings moving forward, However, as a man who claims to have "the answers" I expect to see more moving forward. This Chargers teams ranks outside the top 10 in every team offensive category except for first downs gained where they rank 8th. LB has voiced before though, he deploys a more methodical approach instead of trying to fire up the scoreboard. The defensive side of the ball is where he finds his most success. This can also be attributed to long methodical drives keeping the other teams' offense on the sideline. Defensively he has his team ranked 5th in total defense, 6th in pass defense, 3rd in PPG, and 10th in QB tackles. LB is a proven vet and a proven winner. He is an owner that can win any week.
Strong Wins- Chiefs, 49ers, Titans
Key Players- Austin Ekeler, Tamorrion Terry, Bryan Bulaga, Carter Blankenship, Kenneth Murray Jr, Uchenna Nwosu, Joey Bosa, Derwin James Jr, Michael Badgley
9. Philadelphia Eagles (6-2) - I think Zach has made this a very underrated Eagles team. Bryce and the 49ers try and claim to be the team that runs and does not pass. It appears though, that recipe is happening in Philly and to great success. The Eagles rank second to last in pass offense but rank 5th in rush offense and 6th in rush TDs. They are also sending out a top 10 defenive team in total defense which is anchored by their top ranked rush defense. This defense is also 2nd in the league in fewest points allowed. They also rank 5th in QB tackles, 7th in fumble recoveries, and 5th in INTs. A top defense who does not allow points and causes turnovers will lead to wins.....and usually playoff wins.
Strong Wins- Cowboys, Lions
Key Players- Miles Sanders, Quinton Spain, Lane Johnson, Jason Kelce, Andre Dillard, Davion Taylor, Fletcher Cox, Blake Cashman, K'Von Wallace
10. Detroit Lions (6-2) - The Detroit Lions are playing very impressive football and could even be higher on this list. They tried to make a move before the trade deadline to improve that pass offense even more. He understands he needs to keep pace with them Green Bay Packers. The Lions are the 4th ranked team in total offense and 3rd in pass offense. They rank 6th in PPG, 6th in first downs gained, and they lead the league in passing TDs. While the Lions possess the second worst rush defense, they have the 7th best defense against the pass. They also rank 4th in defensive INTs. They have the 7th best 3rd down offense and 8th best redzone offense. This is a team, like the Jaguars who can score with anyone. They however have an achilles heal on defense with the Lions being the rush defense. Can this team score enough to make some noise?
Strong Wins- Seahawks, Cowboys
Key Players- Tua Tagovailoa, Kenny Golladay, Jamal Agnew, Frank Ragnow, Trey Smith, Demani Richardson, Tracy Walker
