This will be to the point. I have three teams that I think killed the draft and hit on almost all of their picks while also filling the needs of their team. I have one draft loser and most teams just did ok. So let's get to the winners first.
1. Dolphins - the Dolphins are my top team in this draft. They maximized their picks. They rushed to the podium to take Trevor Lawrence. They will flip Tua for another 1st round pick in next year's draft setting them up to gather more elite talent. Completing the backfield they later drafted Zamir White who is also a Star Development. This team could have three SS HB's if they focused on that area. Later in round 2 the team took Alex Leatherwood, who is also a Star development. In round 3 they took RE KJ Henry, another Star development player. With the 4th pick in the 1st round they took MLB Micah Parsons, a Super Star player out of the box. So I thought the Phins hit this draft and picked up tremendous value and immediate impact players. The drafting of Lawrence and the flipping of Tua for another 1st next season will be the greatest move in an already great draft.
2. Colts - The Colts draft on the surface does not appear overly impressive. However, they hit on three key picks and drafted a QB with a great template to flesh out. WR Rondale Moore, DT Lorenzo Neal, and OLB Cameron McGrone are all Star Development players who could have big years. Kyle Trask with those attributes was a steal for where he was taken.
3. Broncos - I had to go back and take a second look and for a team that did not have a first round pick to hit with 3 hidden development players is impressive. While all of them are only Star development, it will certainly be a quick turnaround for at least one of them, WR Ray Fisher. Three Star development players and the great Free Agency additions may see a deep playoff run from the Broncos.
Honorable Mention
Jaguars - Speed everywhere. Great picks with Surtain II and Twyman (SS DL out of the box).
Draft Loser (s):
Falcons - let me get to the good part first. The players selected are actually damn good. So it's not the players. I like the players and had this been another team I would have had them as a draft winner. Let's look at the players. Greg Rousseau. He is a SS player and will be a massive headache for offenses in the NFC South. FS Ar'Darius Washington is a Star development player with tremendous range and potential. With 95 Acel and 94 speed, he can be special at Safety. His tackling is suspect but the speed and talent offsets that. LG Emil Ekiyor is a Star development player that should see action immediately and bolster up the trenches. So that's three great picks for this team. I don't hate these players at all, I think they are great. My issue here is why not take Trevor Lawrence? You have a great deal of money already tied up at DE prior to Rousseau. Where is he going to play this season?? You have speed at WR and now you don't have a QB to hit them down the field or one who can push passes on the boundary. So to me Lawrance should have been the pick and not taking him was an epic failure.
Seahawks - you got what you wanted, a first round pick only to have that pick go to a player at a position you traded for to get the 1st round pick. I know, you didn't pick the player, BUT, it's still loser no matter how we slice it. The OL on this team is ugly and Wilson's days could be numbered.
Steal of the Draft:
Ja'Marr Chase - Bills. I'm not sure how a SS WR made it to the 9th pick in the draft.
