Panthers – Greg Olsen retired and left a void in the Panthers offense. However, the team could also use some upgrades on the defense, particularly at NT and at SS. With the Falcons obtaining Lamar Jackson and with a broken HB now in Freeman, gap integrity is going to be very important. The team would do well to draft a trench player that can clog lanes. However, the value at SS is too great and the team selects SS Grant Delpit LSU.
Cowboys – The Cowboys have a huge hole at the LG position. With the interior and edge pressure of division rival and SB champion Washington Redskins, they reach a little bit but grab a player that helps them stave off the Redskins ferocious pass rush in RG Tommy Kraemer, who they will play at LG.
Jets –The Jets have holes at C and RT. One of them has to be addressed while the other can be filled in with a player already on the roster. The team has also been trying to shop X-Factor HB Le’Veon Bell. I look for the team to address RT here with Alabama LT Alex Leatherwood. The young LT might have some awareness issues but his talent is transcendent.
Ravens – After drafting their pocket QB, the Ravens inject some life in their secondary by turning to Marlon Humphrey’s and Ozzie Newsome’s Alma Mater and select CB Trevon Diggs, Alabama to pair with Humphrey. This will give the Ravens two CB’s over 6’0 who can press and play man.
Browns – The Browns are a team that really doesn’t need too much. However, with only one TE on the roster, this limits their offense to Pro and 3 WR sets. While this is not necessarily a bad thing, they might like to run their offense through some two TE sets. I have the Browns taking the best TE in this draft in Brycen Hopkins, Purdue University. The Panthers could spoil this, however, they really need to think about defense.
Bills – With their 2nd pick in the first round the Bills turn to the defense again and solidify their front 7 by taking ROLB Kenneth Murray, Oklahoma. Murray may have some awareness issues but he’s a transcendent talent and an exceptional athlete. Combining him with Edmunds could give the Bills one of the faster LB units in the league.
Cards – The Cards just could not stop Guice, like most other teams and it kept them team out of their 2nd straight SB. The team also could not stop the Redskins pass rush as Murray was completely harassed. The team somewhat addressed this issue at LT in FA by bringing in Alejandro Villanueva. So with this first pick the team attempts to address the middle of the defense by selecting standout DT Neville Gallimore, Oklahoma.
Jags – The Jags are a team that needs to fill out the roster. But thinking back to the AFC championship game, the team remembers one play. A 74 yard run up the middle by Melvin Gordon in which Danny Shelton was completely moved out of the box. 76 block shedding is the culprit. So to address that the team selects Purdue DT Lorenzo Neal to shore up the middle of the defense.
Chargers – The Chargers, now known as the Caps, do not really need too much. Thinking back on their last game in the SB however, you’d think they would infuse some talent to the OL since the team is not equipped to be in situations where they cannot dictate the game. The relentless Redskins pass rush showed us this. Forest Lamp and Dan Feeney have flexibility to move around on the OL, however, neither can deal with Finesse rushers. But rather than push the issue the team strengthens its secondary to cover for aging and regressing players at the CB spot by selecting Paulson Adebo CB Stanford. By taking Adebo, the Caps can cut Hayward and save 7 mil, while also landing whose skill set is in the upswing.
Redskins – SB Champion Washington Redskins have very little needs. The team could use a lineman for the future and have him ready next season to takeover at LG. I look for them to take star C Darryl Williams out of Mississippi State here and start him at Guard this season and then next season he’ll either stay at G or move to Center. It would be a good value pick for the Skins here.
