Somewhere during this season things began to click for ATL on both sides of the ball. The offense, despite hiccups from time to time, were able to run the rock effectively and deploy and effective and sometimes lethal passing attack when need be. The results were a mixed bag from those who are familiar with the Falcons offense. Freeman ended up fifth in the league in rushing and touchdowns, which was a huge improvement from the previous injury-plagued season. Ryan suffered a dip in production from the standpoint of passing yards and Patrick Mahomes made sure to let Ryan know about it.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Falcons were able to get after the quarterback when Mckinley was healthy and Keanu somehow accounted for about 20-plus takeaways alone... yes, alone. So with an effective offensive attack and a defensive mindset that allowed to take the ball away, what went wrong? Unfortunately, the offensive line couldn't hold up in a key moment vs Washington in a home playoff game. Washington had an incredible defensive line and it showed late in that game because the Falcons offensive line just couldn't hold them any longer and they began to feast constantly pressuring Ryan leading to rushed throws that turned into interceptions that basically sealed the game for the team from Landover.
The Falcons don't believe that their window is closing in the least bit. Every loss tends to prove a very valuable lesson and inside of that, perhaps the grand design shall be born. We shall see, but despite holding Guice to not doing much (essentially the only team to do so), changes may be on the horizon, but regardless of the fact, expect a little more out of Atlanta going forward as they chase number 10.
