The Carolina Panthers hosted the Kansas City Chiefs in their week 5 match up, and with the likes of Patrick Mahomes coming to town the team knew they had their hands full with the task of containing this offensive attack.
In an effort to keep this unit off the field, the Panthers gave the newly extended running back, Christian McCaffrey, a season high 26 carries. The Stanford product was able to gain 198 yards on the ground and find the endzone once, he only added one reception on the game. This lone reception wasn't the result of the game plan, but mainly that QB Cam Newton just did not have it this week. Throwing for a total of 57 yards, the longtime Panther was all but a shell of himself through the air and on the ground.
Coming into this week fans and analysts around the world had one thing in mind, a big game for Chiefs' WR Tyreek Hill with Carolina's top DB Donte Jackson still nursing a dislocated ankle. James Bradberry IV has been able to show up and show out for this squad, only allowing the speedy wideout to snag 2 passes for 26 yards. The rest of the secondary had a tough time containing Mecole Hardman who torched them for 168 yards and 2 scores, but the defense was able to come out hot in the first half to build a big enough lead to counter their second half meltdown.
The Panthers will head into their bye week with a record of 3-2, they'll have to use this time to prepare for the red hot Washington Redskins along with the bulk of their divisional games.
