Week 2 had the Jets host the Browns on Monday Night Football. Earlier in the week Coach Brown said "We can't make mistakes against this team if we do, then it'll be a long night." Well Sam Darnold and company heard what Neal Brown had to say as the offense had 0 turnovers. Darnold was 14-28 passing with 219 yards and 1 touchdown. One of Darnold's targets Jamison Crowder led the team again with 4 catches for 108 yards and 1 touchdown. The running game struggled once again as Leveon Bell had 22 carries for 73 yards. Coach Brown told the media after the game that he was "pleased" with Darnolds performance, but the O-line needs to get better in the run game.
On the defensive side the Jets held Baker Mayfield to 11-19 passing with only 124 yards, but 2 touchdowns. The solid duo of Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham Jr had a combined 6 catches for 59 yards and 0 tocuhdowns. The defense had a tougher time in the run game against Nick Chubb this week as he went for 15 carries and 95 yards on the night. "I was proud of the way our defense played tonight, they stepped up all night. Great group effort on that side of the ball" Coach Brown told the media monday night. Jordan Jenkins caused the lone turnover of the night as he forced a fumble on a Baker Mayfield scramble.
The 2 points that decided the Jets victory came on a safety in which the Browns return man seemed to have stepped out at the 1 yard line, but the refs ruled he went into the endzone and went out of bounds at the 1. Neal Brown said "It was an odd play, but it was the deciding factor in the game." The 2-0 Jets will head to Foxborough next week to face the 1-1 New England Patriots.
