Week 1 was a struggle for the New York Jets offense as new head coach Neal Brown took over in the offseason. Coach Brown said in the post game interview "It wasn't pretty but it sure did get the job done." The Jets only had a total of 201 yards passing, and 85 yards rushing, 286 yards all together. Leveon Bell and the running game had a very weak start with 5 rushes for -1 yard, but after that had 18 carries for 78 yards totalling 23 carries for 77 yards and 1 touuchdown. Second year Quarterback Sam Darnold struggled with 201 yards passing,1 touchdown, and 2 interceptions. Coach Brown said after the game "I thought Sam managed the game well, but he will have to reduce the mistakes going forward and learn from these ones."
On the other side of the ball the defense found success especially in defending the run. They held the Bills offense to 12 carries for 46 yards on the day. Josh Allen had 1 carry for 8 yards, Cole Beasley had 1 carry for 13 yards, and Frank Gore had 10 carries for 25 yards on the day. Newly aquired Middle Linebacker CJ Mosley had 5 tackles and an interception, while the fourth year Left End Leoanrd WIlliams had 4 tackles and both New York QB tackles on the day. Buffalo's second year Quarterback Josh Allen threw for 244 yards, 1 touchdown, and 2 interceptions. The second interception going to the second year Jet Trumaine Johnson.
The New York Jets are set to face the Cleveland Browns on Monday Night Football in Week 2. Coach Brown was asked about his upcoming opponent and said "They're a deadly team the offense is explosive, and we need to make sure that on the other side of the football that Myles Garrett stays away from Sam." The Jets took notice of Garrett's 7 QB tackle game in Week 1, and will try to make sure he doen's recreate that against them.
