The Atlanta falcons started off defending their SFL titles this year and had the same week one struggles they always do. Philadelphia absolutely destroyed them and to be honest every single year Atlanta seems to struggle in the early parts of the season. Other than that, they started off with two losses in their first four games. With the second of those games coming at the hands of the eventual Super bowl champions, the Chicago Bears.
This season was tumultuous indeed. There were a myriad of injuries. In addition to the injuries, management decided to part ways with long-time Falcon Julio Jones. Jones was sent to the Washington Redskins for the first and second round picks for this year's upcoming draft. But going back to the injuries, quarterback Matt Ryan found himself on the injury report numerous times this season leaving the incumbent Teddy Bridgewater to take the helm. Joining him on the bench was Calvin Ridley.
Despite all of this, the Falcons found a way to win 12 ball games this past season as well as secure a first round bye as the two seed in the playoffs. Unfortunately, all of that would be for naught. Seeing how the Eagles lost to the Bears, the Falcons knew that home-field advantage now went through the Mercedes-Benz stadium. They were still unable to capitalize on that because in their very first home game against the Los Angeles Rams, with the season on the line and being down one point, Ryan was driving down the field and hit Ridley, but he fumbled and just like that the season was lost.
The Falcons on the outside would look as if they are in a state of uncertainty. However, the falcons hold three first-round picks. Their own, as well as picks from the Jets and Redskins. They own multiple seconds and thirds and look to make a huge impact in the draft. Or, will they package these picks and potentially snag an elite player. That is to be determined, but heading into season 4, they are not as far away from an SFL title as their season said that they were.
