The drafting process for the Los Angeles Rams during the 2020 off-season isn't your ordinary draft, the team only selected four players after moving various picks to the New York Jets & Atlanta Falcons. Though these deals left them without the means to garner young talent this season, they were able to do so during the 2019 draft as well re-tool their secondary unit.
Former Atlanta Falcon, Ricardo Allen, was added to the roster during a pre-draft move and will allow the Rams to explore other options within the secondary. They have already shifted last years' starting safety Lamarcus Joyner to cornerback, where he'll play alongside the likes of Marcus Peters and Nickel Robey-Coleman. Los Angeles beleives that this move can give their front 7 a lot more freedom to get creative and get to the passer more effectively.
Los Angeles looked to breathe some life into some positions on draft night, and here's how their draft shook out:
Round 2 - FS - Craig Fletcher - 6'1" - 223lbs - Wisconsin
This run stopping safety out of Wisconsin will likely find himself in multiple packages during his rookie season, he comes in at a time where Ricardo Allen and Josh Johnson III will eat up the majority of the snaps at safety, but he will be worked into the rotation. Fletcher was one of the top safety prospects coming out of college, but some off the field issues kept him out of the first round.
Round 4 - TE - Turner Sartin - 6'2" - 254lbs - Temple
With the departure of Tyler Highbee the Los Angeles Rams were left with a hole at Tight End. Turner Sartin out of Temple comes out of this draft and into the number 2 slot here for the Rams and will play a fair amount during his rookie season. He ran a solid 40 time in the combine, the 5th of his class, and can block fairly well for a pass catcher, he is able to fight through traffic well and might be fighting Gerald Everett for the starting position.
Round 6 - WR - Tucker Brennan - 6'4" - 233lbs - UAB
This 22-year old UAB product could propell himself into the rotation here in Los Angeles, he's got a big frame that could work well with the likes of Brandin Cooks and Roberts Woods, the Rams will have to get creative if they want to get this youngblood some reps.
Round 7 - LT - Chandler Richard - 6'5" - 304lbs - Souther Miss
Richard won't find himself propelled into blocking the blindside, but he will fit in nicely as a depth piece for this somewhat slim Rams' offensive line. He'll be rostered unlike most 7th round picks in this years' draft.
