The Eagles 10-0 run came to an end this week when Philly fell short of win agasinst rival the rival Dallas Cowboys. So far this year the Eagles have been firing on all cyclinders ranking #3 in offense and #7 overall in defense. We've seen some familiar faces leading the team this year, Carson Wentz coming off an MVP season just a year ago is currently 3rd in passing yarfds and is having another great season so far. A new name that's emerge is Halfback DeAndre Washington, accounting for 625 all purpose yards and 4TDs. First round draft pick BJ Cannon has been making a name for himself as well, Cannon has totaled 28 catches, 637 all purpose yards, and 4 TDs.
On the other side of the ball another fomer first round pick, Derek Barnett has starting to play at a high level, Barnett has a career high 8 sacks on the season tied for the teams most with Brandon Graham and Jordan Hicks. Ronald Darby and Malcom Jenkins are both leading the Eagles secondary with 4 picks each and keeping the young talen in this Philly secondary in check.
Despite all this succes during the 10 game winning streak, it wasn't enough to keep the perfect season going this past Sunday. The Eagles traveled to the Lone Star State to take on their longtime rivals in what was a suprisingly offensive struggle for the first time this season, scoring a season low 13 points and being the first game held below 20 all year. The birds couldnt find the endzone until the third quarter when FB Devon Johnson punched it in from the 1 yard line. Carson Wentz couldn't find the end zone for the first time since week 17 of 2018 The defense helped all they could to keep the team in the game and with 3 minutes left got Wentz the ball back to try and tie before the end of regulation. The Eagles drove all the way to the 18 before coming short and turning the ball over on downs with 1 minute left.
We caught up with Head Coach Justyn Byrd after the big loss to see what he had to say about his teams performance, "You know anytime you gotta travel to a rivals stadium you know it's not gonna be an easy game, games like this you need to come out with a certain amount of intensity if you wanna win and we just didn't do that. We came out flat on offense, period. We had way too many dropped balls, missed throws, and missed key blocks in some big moments. On defense we missed some assigments and just didn't exucuete a lot of things we normally don't have a problem doing. I'm gonna take the blame mostly for not having the best play calls on offense in the redzone and when you can't score in the red zone you just cant win football games. We got our eyes on the playoffs thougha and securing that first round bye and making the NFC go through Philly," The Eagles face off with anotehr divisional game vs Washington next week.
