The Bills went down the Jacksonville Florida, this time with more confidence against the Jags secondary. After the first two drives of hiccups, the offense pretty much put on a clinic. The defense, however, was dominant out of the gate. The Jags QB's found the floor 8 times and gifted Bills defenders through the air. Let's take a look at the new blood and year 2 blood and old blood do work.
On the first play from scrimmage, new OLB Anthony Walker Jr, who the Bills picked up off the Rams practice squad, picked off this Case Keenum pass to set the offense up. However, on what one would think should have been a greatly executed play by the offense on the next snap, Jalen Ramsey sassed himself to an INT even though he was beaten.
On the very next play, Witherspoon showed the Bills why he'd be a great talent for their secondary.
From there, it was a lot of QB Tackles and more QB gifts. Trent Murphy started things off by chasing down Case Keenem for the Bills first QB Tackle of the night. Murphy would finish the first half with 2 QB tackles.
Rookie DE Torrian Smith also chased down Keenum for a QB tackles. The rookie looked great in this contest even though he has a ways to go in development before becoming a full time starter.
Tremaine Edmunds used his 6'5 frame to pick off this post route.
Second year defensive back Taron Johnson notched his first QB tackle of Bortles in the 3rd qtr.
Second year SS Siran Neal also tackled Bortles on an interior blitz early in the 4th.
Later in the fourth, Taron Johnson recorded his second QB tackle on Bortles to knock the offense backward.
Finally, Cyrus Jones picked off this Bortles pass late 4th to seal the game and a Bills victory 33-3.
The Bills know they have a lot of work to do to get where they need to and they understand it's one game at a time and one opponent at a time. There will be some tough cuts in the next couple of advances. On draft night, many fans hated the Sanchez Beal pick, however, after close examination, the kid is actually pretty damn good. I'm expecting the Bills to cut bait with some WR talent among other positions.
