The Falcons started their season out by getting destroyed by the Eagles by 20 points. Clearly they didn't seem as if they were ready for the bright lights. They rebounded by destroying the then Robb-led Panthers by 42 and then the Saints by 49. After "righting the ship" and going on a bit of a tear, Atlanta was then humbled by the Redskins in the Falcons worst loss of the year (24 points.)
The Falcons then rebounded by winning the rest of the games on the schedule and finishing 14-2 and getting the #2 seed in the NFC. The Regular season was pretty kind to the Falcons as key players made the Pro Bowl as well as got upgrades, which is always good. Deion Jones, who finished the NFC as a dark horse Defensive Player of the Year, became a superstar. So did rookie phenom Calvin Ridley.
The playoffs we're another story entirely. The Falcons became hosts for the NFC title game after Chicago lost their opening divisional round game to the Redskins and the Falcons won versus a very good Rams team after losing by two scores for a good part of that game.
ATL saught out redemption versus a Washington team that defeated them earlier in the season but that wasn't meant to be as Perine had other plans. The difference in the game being a 70+ yard scamper in which he broke many tackles and crawled, used a cane, moonwalked into the endzone depending on how you look at it seeing how nobody had any stamina to catch him.
Heading into the offseason, the Falcons don't have many questions. The key players are there. Ryan bounced back from an abysmal 2017 season to finish second in the MVP voting. However, next season they face key re-signings as Deion Jones, Keanu Neal and others are up for new deals. So don't expect Atlanta to go ham in Free Agency as they will be keeping their money to give to their home-grown stars that deserve it.
They didn't finish the way the way that they wanted to but the goal remains the same. The race for number nine is upon them and they remain as hungry as ever to achieve the mission at hand.
