The Atlanta Falcons got absolute handled in Week 1 on the road against Philadelphia. There's no way around it. They didn't show up. Looked like they didn't get on the plane to go to Lincoln Financial at all. Ryan looked like a novice for the most part of the day. He threw four picks and two were very egregious. Matt Bryant missed kicked. Receivers dropped passes, running backs couldn't find any lanes to run through. The office line couldn't block out a bad thought. "We played like horsesh-t" quipped Coach Qelichick, who is in search of his 9th ring.
The Falcons had a few days to let that sting go away. But rather than embrace that heartbreak, they've been playing with a chip on their shoulder after going back home to the Mercerdes Benz stadium where they've hosted back-to-back divison opponents. During this two game stretch, the Falcons are averaging 63.5 points. You read that correctly. This is the same Falcon team who could only muster 14 points against a very dominant Eagles squad. The players in the locker room know that they'll be seeing Philly again and honestly are chomping at the bit to get them again.
Rookie receiver Calvin Ridley went on the record as saying that first game essentially woke up a "sleeping giant." Ridley, coincidentally leads the league in yards and touchdowns currently. But this angry squad has been getting to the quarterback. They've been taking the ball away at an alarming rate. All of a sudden there are running lanes and the interceptions have cut down drastically. "We have to take care of the football. That's the only way we're gonna win games around here" said Ryan as he exited the locker room. The Falcons look forward to hosting the Bengals next. Should be an interesting game.
