(New DL interface doesn't allow me to do bold print and italicize stuff so...yeah...plain jane until they fix it) New York Jets - Preseason Week 1 Notes Who is HB Trenton Cannon? Trenton Cannon was a 6th round selection by the New York Jets in the 2018 draft. He hails from Virginia State and is an athletic beast. He posted a 38.5 inch vertical at the combine with a 10 foot 9 broad jump, had a 4.40 40 yard dash time with an electrifying 1.49 10-yard split. Over 2 years in college, he had 35 rushing touchdowns and offers a ton of homerun hitting ability on special teams. The issue with him is that he is a small running back at 5'11" and 185 pounds and he isn't much of a yards after contact player....yet. Overall, the Jets seem to have found a gem in the young tailback as he rushed for 38 yards and 2 TDs on only 5 carries versus an Atlanta Falcons team that will be primed to win titles out of the gate this season. Is QB Sam Darnold Ready? QB Sam Darnold had a subpar game against Atlanta as he was over 80% completion percentage but had two drives that stalled out in the first quarter that begs to wonder if he is ready to lead a poor Jets team against the prime contenders of the SFL. We will have to take a wait and see approach as the preseason continues to see if he improves or not. If all else fails, QB Josh McCown, who led the Jets to 27 points from the 3rd quarter and on, is a competent vet that should be able to handle the work load if necessary. Is the pass rush for real? The New York Jets was able to attain 9(!) plus QB tackles against a strong offensive line in Atlanta. It wasn't just second half and back-up production either as the starters were able to acquire 3 QB tackles in just a quarter of play. I want to say "hold your horses!" on this one but Coach Cyphadagawd knows how to get after the QB well enough to make opposing QBs antsy in the pocket. Just like with the Sam Darnold question, this is another wait and see thing we will have to keep a close eye on. A good first game for the New York Jets overall. We will have to see if the Jets continue on this upward trend as the preseason goes on. This is Jetty McFly, signing off!
