Who Will Be The Next *New* Champion?

Hello fine citizens of the SFL!! With the recent news of the next Madden beginning to leak, it is safe to say that we are BACK! Overall, there have been 8 total seasons of Sideline Football and in those 8 total seasons, 6 times we have had a non-champion be crowned a first time champion in the inaugural season. This article is meant to give you my top 10 picks for non-champions to be crowned as a champion in season 1. Get mad, get sad but ultimately, get glad that we are back!!

*Special Mention* - Ark (Cardinals) - Ark gets a special mention since he said he did not want to be rated. Ark would fall somewhere in the top 10 with relative ease. Won’t go into detail since it would be pointless to do so.

10. Bando (Jaguars) – First and foremost, I understand that Bando plays the majority of his games high as a kite but let’s get something out of the way here. I don’t believe that Bando would win a title based solely upon his play style. I believe that when you have an auto-pilot defense, you HAVE to have a shot at a title. Literally, all Bando needs to do is not call dumb defensive plays and be patient and safe on offense and he immediately becomes a top title contender.

9. Jason (Vikings) – All jokes aside, Jason isn’t that bad of a Madden player. Sure, he has a lot of room for improvement on offense. On defense though, he is no slouch AND he gets to have a highly rated defense out of the box. If Jason can improve on offense and continue his style of play on defense then it’s very possible that he shocks a loaded NFCN division.

8. Deme (Colts) – Deme came out of nowhere and shocked us with his game play with the Jets as he made an otherwise sorry team a yearly competitor. This is the first instance on this list where the ranking of the user is because of the team and not the user ability. If Deme had any other team that was remotely good, he would be the number one contender on my list. And this is despite the Colts having a lot of holes, may not be having Andrew Luck to begin the season AND having to deal with two former champions in Gabe & Chan. He’s that good, people.

7. Ed (Buccaneers) – So this one is a guess and a projection. Ed showed great improvement from when he first joined the SFL and up until now. He’s aggressive on offense and defense and no longer runs the same plays over and over again. With the Buccaneers, he inherits an offense that could very well look like the best offense in football. That defense is shaping up nicely with that revamped defensive line and those linebackers in Lavonte David & Kwon Alexander. I can see Ed contending in an otherwise weak NFCS and potentially upsetting a few good users on his way to his first SFL title.

6. Crim (Rams) – Crim is a good user but has a few flaws. His main flaw was his defense and his defensive play calling not working for his personnel. On offense, he was steady and consistently good enough to succeed. So now with Crim taking over the Rams with a loaded defense, Crim has no choice but to excel. This defense is going to look like one of the best autopiloted defenses and with Crim being a steady offensive play caller, there is only so much he can personally do to sabotage himself. We will see what happens but don’t be surprised if behind the strength of that roster, Crim is able to hoist his first SFL trophy.

5. Zach (Cowboys) – Zach has had so much success in so little time that it’s a wonder he has never been to a Super Bowl before. He plays smart, plays great defense and has a good enough roster surrounding him that being able to be successful should be little issue. I can see season 1 being an absolute grind for Zach but I can’t and won’t count him out. His play strength alone puts him on this list but couple it with a fairly talented Cowboys roster and Zach looks like a future champion in the making.

4. Matt (Seahawks) – I honestly feel as though if Matt could have avoided Q in any of his postseason runs, he may have won a championship by now. Matt was my most improved Madden user from last season but unfortunately, his team has some holes in some key areas that may be his downfall in season one. I definitely believe that Matt is more than capable of winning a title but until he is able to overcome Q and now that tougher division with Ark, Crim & Spawn, he may be stuck without one until at least Madden 20.

3. Clint (Bears) – I surprised myself when I put Clint in the three spot because he’s honestly the best user in the SFL without a title. The reason why he is ranked at #3 is because he is in a tough division with Bryce, Jason and a mystery user who is rumored to be a good user (#FreeGomes) and he has a team that will have promise but may not quite be that elite team in season one. Has had a multitude of strong playoff runs and it is only a matter of time before he is hoisting the SFL title. The only thing stopping him in season one is his promising roster.

2. Byrd (Eagles) – The best roster in the SFL with depth all around. Byrd is a good user as he demonstrated this by winning versus B three times in a row in one season including the postseason. That was with a Bengals squad that was decent but not great. Now, Byrd gets a loaded Eagles team and there is truly no real reason that Byrd will not be able to win on the strength of his team alone. Pour his skill into the mix and he looks like the favorite to win his first SFL title in season one.

1. Mike (Chargers) – My pick for the “most likely to succeed” is the only Fast Crew member who has yet to try to commit suicide. Mike has one of the only true complete teams with depth in the SFL and may have the easiest road to the playoffs with the other three contenders in his division being opponents who are not that great. Mike gets to have a dynamic offense and an attacking defense that should all mostly be highly rated and very good. If I am a betting man, I am placing my money on Mike to dominate his division and to be the number one contender of non-winners to win their first SFL title.
