I will not go through every team in this write-up, I will talk mostly about the teams who I thought drafted very well and those that did not. I will provide some rationale for why I have certain teams as winners and others as losers. If a team does not appear on the list then I'd say most likely they did good to great. Here are the teams that stood out to me in the 2020 SFL Draft.
AFC Winners
Chiefs
The Chiefs added talent to the trenches and the reason why their draft is rated this high is because they drafted according to their formula. They want to beat teams in the trenches and by adding Simon Jackson (LT); Tucker McCarty (C); and Jared Palko (DT) they added players who can tribute right away but also take over for aging vets allowing them to walk next season. The selections were smart and fit into the strategy that the Chiefs use to win football games. Now, of course, there will be some who will say he didn't have a great draft. I'd say, shut up and get your run defense ready.
Steelers
In all of the years of SFLdom, I've never seen this. The Steelers selected two immediate starters in the trenches on both sides of the football and another who can be groomed for a season before he contributes. RT Anthony Ebert, one of the best players in the draft, and NT Bennett Ghee should see action immediately. MLB Davarius Walker actually has a good skillset and could see some action in the subpackages and Edgeton Lucas is a Hammer at FS. You don't find too many Players at the position with those measurables and that athleticism.
Patriots
The Patriots had an unbalanced draft but a good draft. They did not address defense and given their last game of the season against the Jets in the Wildcard round they probably should have. The team landed some speed and talent at both HB and TE to pair with their superstar QB from the past draft. HB Smash Williams and Micha Goins III are two of the fastest HB's in the draft. Both field an impressive 94 acceleration. Williams has a 92 speed and Goins a 93 speed. To top it off the team allowed Gronkowski to walk and replaced him with Mike Ditka III who is perhaps the best TE prospect in the class. It's not good news for the AFC East but the Patriots continue to fill the cupboard and add players that give them a great shot at winning any game.
Those are my top three AFC Winners. Some other teams that had good drafts include:
Bills
Ravens
Texans barring the two reaches was still really good. The two OL are immediate starter material.
Dolphins. Great pick in TE Holt and the team actually selected 3 offensive linemen in the 70's ovr that will be able to be big contributors in seasons down the line. The team also selected Sheroid Rush who comes with an impressive 85 power moves as a rookie. The reach on HB Pause had a lot of people upset.
Chargers - Rick Ross Jr (WR); Anthony Brazill (DE); Miles Koets (DT) is not a bad draft at all. Actually, this could be ranked up there with the top three. Some might sour on Brazill because of the slow development, but his skill set is already at a point where most players never reach in their development. This was a really good draft for the Chargers. They landed two Quick development players and one slow development player that already has skills that surpass most starters.
AFC Losers
Broncos - I couldn't believe it. To be fair, I think the Broncos 2nd round pick Lance Sherrod is going to be a special player. He was the highlight of their draft and one of the best players. I think he was a projected 2nd rd player. Why not take him at 3 in the first round. Instead the team took a Goal Line back with the 3rd overall pick???? WTF my nigga??? You had stardom right before your eyes in Roth and/or Coleman (Seattle) but you fell in love with a prototype thinking that because he's 6'3 that you would just be able to spam the truck button.
All you had to do was look at the bench press numbers my nigga. This man is 6'3 but he only did 17 reps on the bench. Spider senses should have been tingling. Maybe he works out for you, but at the #3 pick in the first round??? Just take the superstar. This is a case where you outdumbed yourself.
Titans - let me be clear here. It's not that the players are not good players. The players drafted by the Titans are actually pretty damn good. So why are the Titans draft losers? I have absolutely no idea what the team is doing. I don't know what the identity is. I know what it was. It was a team that relied on Henry to punish defenses and it did that well. Now, I have absolutely no clue. The team took three wide receivers but already have Corey Davis, Tawan Taylor, and T.Y Hilton. I'm baffled that a team that primarily was at its best running the football would draft so many wide receiver options. Are you a running team or a passing team? The reason this is confusing is because Mariota was on the hot seat last season at one point and once Henry got hurt the team suffered. I just don't know what the plan is here.
Winners
Seahawks
The Seahawks landed superstar HB Lavon Coleman; several offensive linemen to groom for the future; RE Haynes Gado who's ready to contribute now; and LOLB Pierce Lefeged who's also ready to contribute now. These three players listed can be significant contributors on the team right now. The team drafted a great deal of depth to groom and set themselves up to replace vets and have solid options in place.
Falcons
The Falcons take a Superstar OLB in Marcus Weatherspoon, the fastest CB in the draft in Marquis Sanders, more speed at OLB with David Morgan, and a good RT to groom. Two WR's were also added to the team. Speed kills and the Falcons have it and added more this past draft.
Redskins
New Coach always wants his QB and the Redskins did that in this draft. The left side of the OL was and in some ways still is in trouble but the GM alleviated some of the problems by taking a Superstar LG in Butch Pruitt. So you land two Superstars in the first two rounds. That's as best as it gets. The team still has some issues at LT and will need to solve it eventually but those first two picks alone make this an A draft.
Losers
Saints
I thought the Saints needed some superstart talent in the trenches on defense. Cravens is not a bad player but he does not provide any pass rushing ability at the moment. He may help the Saints in containing the Panthers rushing attack, but he will do nothing to help the team contain the Falcons passing attack. Wadsworth is the same way. It's not that these players are bad at what they do. They are both graded well against the run especially Cravens. But the Falcons are the SB Champs and they have a top five passing attack. I would think what needs to be acquired to beat them would be a top priority. Instead, you'll continue to be stuck running cover 0 to get after the passer. This will work against some opponents, but it's not going to work against the teams you need it to work against to get you in the tournament.
