The Buffalo Bills went into the 2019 draft wanting to get more explosive on offense and to get faster on the 2nd and 3rd levels of their defense. They did exactly that. They also wanted to add more talent at the QB position but that's where they fell short. Let's look at the Bills draft in review.
The Bills took TE C.T Roach with their first pick in rd 1. Roach will get penciled in right away and will have to mature over the course of the season.
The team traded away their 2nd round pick to the Panthers to stockpile picks for later in the draft where there was a great deal of value.
With their first pick in the 3rd round they took Safety Solomon Dunndee. They will move him to Middle linebacker and let him mature over the course of the season. Dunndee will provide speed and hit power in the middle of the Bills defense.
With their first pick in round 4 the franchise took talented WR Santana Foote. This is the first special development WR the Bills have had. The team is already trying to scheme ways to use Foote to open up the offense.
The team added more depth in the secondary with FS Francis Wansley. The plan is to let Wansley sit and develop and take over for Poyer next season. Wansley is a special player that already has the Clutch trait active. With a season of seasoning and working on his zone coverage, awareness and play recognition this can turn into a very significant player for the Bills.
In the 5th rd the team added to the LB unit. Paup is a player who will be all over the Bills defense. He has great speed. He will need to work on his pass rush moves but the template is definitely here for a special player.
Finally, the team took a flyer on WR Gordon Danzler who's primary duty this year will be special teams.
The Bills are excited about this draft class. We'll see how it plays out for them.
