After the first four games of the season we can honestly say, we still don't know what the Falcons are doing on offense. They haven't yet discovered their identity in a sense.
Versus the Browns, Ryan and company didn't amass much of anything. Ryan threw a pick and a touchdown as the defense picked off the Browns six times (Including one for a score) and secured the win.
Versus the Panthers, rookie wideout Ryan "Royce" Montgomery absolutely shredded Carolina's secondary in a half and the Falcons coasted to victory just predicated off their offense.
Versus the Giants it truly was a mixed bag. Ryan threw four picks. The defense gave up 24 points by halftime and nothing was going right. By the end of the game though, the defense allowed three points in the entire second half and Ryan found a way to secure the win with another pause-from-pause victory.
Versus the Steelers, the ground game finally got working as the Falcons only ran about half the plays they normally run during the course of the game but they churned out 200+ on the ground and Freeman added four scores. The defense returned multiple INTs to the house.
So after seeing all of this we can make a few assumptions. Now that Marquand Manuel is calling the defense, the Falcons are only allowing 15 PPG and are a top five defensive unit. Which is an improvement over last year. However, the run and the pass didn't truly merge until this Pittsburgh game. It's been tough to determine whether Atlanta will score and how they will score. Somehow, they score when they need to. The next quarter of the season looms large as the Falcons meet the Ravens and then off to Eagles and Cowboys who defeated them last year. If this defense can continue to play like this, Atlanta should be having another deep playoff run.
