The Seattle Seahawks took a trip down the coast line to face off against the division rival San Francisco 49ers. The Hawks prevailed and will head home with a victory after a convincing 31-17 win, moving their overall record to 3-0 on the young season.
As the running game struggled in the first half, Russell Wilson took command in this one, finishing the day with 373 yards and 2 touchdowns. He completed 25 of 33 pass attempts, while also throwing 2 interceptions. Aside from the poor reads that lead to turnovers, the Seahawks signal caller was near perfect on the day. He connected 8 times with rookie tight end Hunter Bryant. The 6’5” behemoth out of Washington has been a difficult matchup for opposing defenses and looks to be a key piece of an offense that saw all pro Jimmy Graham depart in free agency. Paul Richardson also had a nice day, finishing with 5 grabs for 112 yards. “I am very pleased with this performance” said head coach Shawn Springs, “the important of division wins cannot be overstated. We have played great football so far, but we have a long road ahead of us.”
Consistent with the Seahawks identity, the defense had another strong showing. Save for a few costly fumbles by Seattle’s offense that lead to a short field, the Seahawks were relentless, limiting the 49ers to 233 total yards of offense. The run defense was particularly strong, as San Francisco had only 7 yards rushing on the day. The Legion of Boom picked off rookie QB Marvin Jordan 4 times, including 2 by all pro safety Earl Thomas, bringing his total to 4 on the season.
Seattle (3-0) returns home to face an upstart Bears team, while the Niners get a chance to regroup with an early BYE week.
