In a tightly contested contest, the Bills defense had too many miscues (although many they could do nothing about) that caused them to drop the season opener to the Jets 37-34. The Bills front office spent a great deal of draft capital on the defense, bringing in highly touted rookies on the defensive line and in the secondary. Yet in this game, it was as if they did not exist. Their presence was nil. Rookie CB Gordon Klein did have an interception however, it was taken off the board due to a roughing the passer call on DT Marcel Dareus who is as DISCIPLINED as you can get in the game.
The good thing for the Bills is that the proper calls were made defensively. As we can see here on the hail mary conversion prior to the end of the first half the Bills actually have a five vs three advantage. That indicates that the proper play call was made.
But notice here the Jets actually have a WR trying to make the catch EXACTLY where Bills CB Quinton Dunbar is located on the field because he's also trying to make that catch. Seemingly this is where the football was thrown. Micah Hyde for some reason is not allowed to jump and get this interception and Jermaine Kearse with his CLUTCH trait is waiting for the catch.
Kearse hauls in the catch and scores on a play that's just unexplainable.
The only other highlight for the Bills defense was 2nd year player Tre'Davious White as he dropped the QB twice. The Bills defensive staff will look into what they need to do to get better production out of their front four players. While it is great that White dropped the QB twice, the staff is not happy that they have to rely on CB blitzes to get pressure on the QB especially with all the capital they spent on the defensive line.
