Seahawks Fall Short of Ultimate Goal

by ROORshock | 7 years ago | 2 Comments

The Seattle Seahawks had a goal: to bring an SFL championship to the Northwest.  Ultimately, they did not achieve that goal.  After falling to the Atlanta Falcons 34-3 in the NFC divisional round, the Seahawks were eliminated from playoff contention.  After a promising season that saw them crowned NFC West champions, Seattle started off strong in the wildcard round with a 22-14 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.  A matchup with the reigning NFC champion Falcons proved to be too much to overcome, however, as the Seahawks could not find hit their stride.  In a rematch of week 11, a game that saw the Falcons win 25-17, Seattle struggled with early mistakes, missing 2 field goals in the first half.  Russell Wilson had no trouble moving the ball down the field, but untimely interceptions again did Seattle’s offense in, a recurring problem for Wilson this season.  “Russ made a few poor reads that swung the momentum in the wrong direction” head coach Shawn Springs said after the game.  “We’ve got a long offseason ahead of us and were ready to get back to work.”

The Seahawks have some difficult offseason decision to make.  A source out of the VMAC told media outlets that the Seattle front office would not be pursuing a contract extension with star tight end Jimmy Graham.  Entering his age 31 season, Graham is still a dominant force in this league and projects to be among the biggest free agent names this offseason.  Also set to hit the open market is lead running back Eddie Lacy.  Lacy rushed for over 1000 yards this season, but struggled with multiple injuries.  Despite ongoing contract negotiations, the two sides could not come to an agreement.  Seattle looks to move forward with third year UDFA Thomas Rawls.  The small, but powerful back proved more than capable of manning workhorse duties for Seattle after rushing for over 100 yards in the wildcard game of the playoffs.

Seattle has all of the pieces necessary to make another run at the playoffs.  This upcoming draft will be an important one, however, as the talent disparity on their roster is weighted in favor of the veterans.
