Bills Defense By the Numbers

This week the Bills were a bit more aggressive yet they walked away with one less QB Tackle as they paid homage to the Five Time, Five Time Champion Booker T.  Let's look at the defense by the number of rushers and this week we will also record the QB tackles by the numbers.

Number of Rushers:

3 - Five Calls with 3 Rushers: No QB Tackles; 1 QB Hurry.

4 - Eighteen Calls with 4 Rushers:  4 QB Tackles

5 - Three Calls with 5 Rushers:  1 QB Tackle; 2 QB Hurries

6 - Two Calls with 6 Rushers:  1 QB Tackle

Ben Heeney continues to have a great season as a sub-package player.  Heeney got to Dolphins QB Stephen Morris in the first Qtr on a five-man rush zone blitz.

This would be the first of Bills MLB Preston Brown's QB tackles this game.  Brown recorded this one in the 2nd qtr on a 4 man rush.

Jerry Hughes continues to get to the QB for the Bills.  This would be the first of his two in this game.  Hughes beat Dolphins LT Laremy Tunsil with a Bullrush.  The Bills only sent four on this play and played cover 4 behind the rush.

Hughes' second QB tackle was the result of a 6 man rush.  On this one Hughes was unimpeded to the QB.

Finally, Preston Brown recorded his 2nd QB Tackle late in the game on a four man pressure. 

The Bills had some breakdowns in coverage at times.  For the most part, however, the coverage was strong as Lorenzo Alexander and Ramon Humber both pulled in interceptions.  Alexander nearly had two as he almost picked off another HB Swing pass (Ya'll gonna learn LOL).

Humber's interception came in the Redzone.

Humber:  I was just playing the vertical hook and I guess he did not see me sitting underneath the post.  He threw it directly to me.

From there Humber juked one player then bounced off another and got behind the offense and was off to the races.

He would score the first TD of the game to put the Bills up 10-0.

Alexander's interception was the result of the QB seeming to just anticipate pressure and having to get rid of it.

Alexander:  My assignment on that play was the curl/flat, but I did not see an immediate WR there so I jumped back on this route.  Now the replay shows that the Phins actually did have a player on the corner route so I guessed right.  I almost had two this game.  I love picking off that swing screen that certain teams love to run.
