On Saturday afternoon the 6-1 LA Chargers traveled to the 6-1 New England Patriots. The game was hyped up for the GOW from numerous media outlets and man did it live up to the hype!!!
The 1st play of the game LAC threw an INT, not how Coach Gambler wanted to start. The defense held and forced a Patriots FG. A charger CB came off the left edge and blocked the kick, Rookie stud SS Rayshawn Jenkins picked it up and took it back for a 7-0 lead.
That would be all the excitement for the Chargers until late in the 2nd qtr. New England, the #1 offense in SFL, would quickly jump out to a 21-7 lead. Another quick 3 and out for LA and they gave New England the ball with a few mins left before the half. On a 2nd and long, Rookie CB Desmond King stepped in front of a Patriot pass, one of 5 Ints, and took it back for a TD. The Patriots would add one more TD before the half going up 28-14. The LACoffense was at -29 yard of offense.
The 2H was an entirely different ballgame. "We came in at halftime and made our adjustments, said Coach Gambler. That's one thing I think that sets this coaching staff apart from others, our ability to analyze what's happening and make good, sound adjustments."
The Chargers would go on to completely shut down the #1 offense and roll up the points to the tune of a 31-28 lead with 24 seconds remaining in the game. On the first play the Patriots would throw up a Father Jason hail mary and connect for a 80+ yd TD bomb to take the lead at 35-31.
On the ensuing KO, WR Travis Benjamin would make a house call and go back 100 yards for the game winning TD with 6 seconds remaining in the game. "I tell our guys all the time, never quit, nevery yeild, NEVER SURRENDER, said Coach Gambler. The kickoff return just showed the character of this time and their will to win."
What are many are calling the greatest game of SFL history, the LA Chargers went into New England and took what they wanted, the W.
OPOG - WR Keenan Allen 6 catches 114yds and 2 TDs, all in 2H
DPOG - The Entire defense. Forcing 5 Ints and 7 sacks vs the #1 offense
