The Seahawks traveled south on Sunday to face off against an upstart Rams team in Los Angeles. In what proved to be an ugly game on both sides, Seattle was able to come out with the victory, thanks to a late 4th quarter drive that ended with a game winning FG by kicker Josh Lambo. The Seahawks jumped out to an early lead, but quarterback Russell Wilson tossed a red zone interception that the Rams returned for a touchdown as the first half came to a close. The Rams also scored on a fumble recovery, as the Seahawks offense had trouble taking care of the football, making the game much closer than expected.
Russell Wilson struggled mightily, throwing 4 interceptions, but ultimately finishing the game with 24/37 passing for 317 yards and 2 touchdowns. Simply put, Wilson just wasn’t sharp, making a number of bad reads that led to turnovers. Seattle also had difficulty running the ball, as fill-in starter Thomas Rawls managed 17 yards on 13 carries. Rams all pro DT Aaron Donald essentially took everything away between the tackles and the Seattle offense had to resort to the aerial game more often than they would have liked. The loss of Eddie Lacy to a shoulder tear looms large, as the Seahawks will need to get more out of their running back depth going forward.
“A win is a win” head coach Shawn Springs said after the game, “we definitely have some things to work on and clean up, but at the end of the day, a win is a win.”
The Seahawks (5-0) now get a much-needed BYE week, as they have a number of key players (Lacy, Cliff Avril) nursing injuries. The Rams (2-3) travel cross-country to face off against the Jaguars in Jacksonville.
