The Seahawks returned to Seattle to host the Niners in their home opener, coasting to a 51-22 win behind a strong offensive performance. Quarterback Russell Wilson was nearly perfect on Sunday, completing 23 of 25 passes for 317 yards and 3 touchdowns. Coming off a 2 turnover game in Green Bay, the veteran signal caller looked poised, putting to rest what little doubt there may have been that he is the man to lead this offense. Wilson found Jimmy Graham early and often, as the San Francisco defense looked completely overmatched trying to cover the 6’8” tight end. Graham hauled in 6 passes for 122 yards and looks to be a key contributor in this offense going forward. Wide receiver Paul Richardson also had a nice day, as the fourth year man out of Colorado caught 2 touchdown passes.
Seattle’s ground game had more success after some tough sledding against the Packers. Free agent acquisition Eddie Lacy looks to be the workhorse back, as he toted the rock 26 times, finishing with 97 yards and 2 scores. He also caught 3 passes for 18 yards. It is worth mentioning that head coach Shawn Springs said after that game that he hopes to cut down on Lacy’s workload going forward. “We loved what we saw from Eddie today, he is a valuable part of this offense. I don’t know if he will push 30 touches every game, we would like to get other guys involved a bit more, but I am very happy with how he responded.” Lacy’s weight and durability issues are well documented, as Springs may be thinking long term with these comments.
Seattle’s defense looked just as dominant as they did week 1, if not more so. The legion of boom picked off rookie QB C.J. Beathard 4 times on the day, and the Seahawks pass rush had pressure on him all afternoon. Frank Clark finished the game with 3 sacks and Cliff Avril added 2 more. After trading for Sheldon Richardson during the preseason, this defensive line looks as advertised and will be an imposing matchup for offenses going forward.
Seattle (2-0) heads back east to face a tough opponent in the Tennessee Titans, while San Francisco (0-2) returns home on a short week to face the Rams on Thursday Night Football.
