At the start of the 2019 SFL season, San Diego got off to an 0-4 start. Most people wrote them off as having a losing season and rightfully so. The Chargers started off with 3 conference losses and 1 NFC loss. As it turns out 2 of the 4 losses were to Divisional Champs. Chicago would capture the NFC North and Houston would take the AFC South titles. "Every loss is a bad loss for us, said Coach Stone. We don't belive in moral victories or anything like that. Our guys keep grinding and kept the faith in our process here."
Kept grinding is an understatement. After starting 0-4, the Chargers rattled off a 10-2 record with both loses coming to AFC West member, Denver.
But there have been some setbacks along the way recently, both 1st round picks from the 2019 draft have been lost for the season. Starting CB Sean Nesbitt and LB Jarrett Frey are both lost for the season. The rookie duo combined for 100+ tackles, 10 Ints, 4 sacks, and 2 TD's. Frey was also in contention for the Defensive Rookie of the Year award in AFC.
The Chargers still don't know exactly where they will be in the playoffs. They can go as high as the #2 seed (with a Cincy loss) or be the #3 seed(with a Cincy win). "To have the oppurtunity to have a first round bye would be huge for us, said QB Dillon Hollenbach. We've played 10 straight weeks and we would enjoy a week off. Extra game prep and resting our bodies would be huge."
Stay tuned Charger fans for the final seeding of the playoffs. Final games for Week 17 are scheduled for tomorrow afternoon!!!
