San Diego picked up its 4th win of the season last night over the Tenneesse Titans, 31-24. The game was a back and forth battle that wasn't decided until the final play of the game. Tenneesse would drive down with 4 mins to go in the game and tie it at 24-24. "We wanted to drive the ball down and eat up as much clock as possible, said QB Dillon Hollenbach." The Chargers then executed a perfection drive that ended with a short run by HB Ivan Earl to take the lead 31-24 with 12 seconds to go in the game. "We had an Iso run called, said Hollenbach. Coach wanted us to run up the middle, call a timeout and kick the game winning FG with no time left. I saw they (Titans defense) had put everyone in the middle so I audibled to a sweep play for Earl. He came through in the clutch and got the TD for us. I knew if the call didn't work that Coach Stone would have killed me, luckily it did though."
The Charger offense piled up close to 500 yards of offense this week. (Stats weren't available at time of press)
San Diego's defense had it's hands full with facing the league leading RB Derrick "I ain't human" Henry. "He lived up to the hype, said rookie LB Jarrett Frey. We knew coming in we had to slow him down to even have a chance at this game......funny thing is we didn't slow him down at all and still got the W."
Coach Stone had this to say after the victory, "All in all I'm really proud of our team in the way they've responded after starting the season 0-4. We've clawed back to 4-4 and share the league lead with the Denver Broncos. Biggest game of the season will take place next week for us."
The Chargers will host Denver in what will determine the lead for the AFC West title. Get to your seats early as this game should be a barn burner!!!
