After a tough loss in the home opener to the Broncos, the Seahawks travelled south to San Francisco to take on Zach and his 49ers looking to make some improvements on both sides of the ball. After Matt Corral’s release from the Panthers the ‘hawks wasted no time bringing him in and after a strong week in practice he was given the start.
Corral got off to a hot start going 3/3 for 49yards on his first drive but after being stopped at the 1, the hawks couldn’t punch it in and settled for 3.
We jump ahead in this tense defensive affair with the 49ers at their own 25 down 12-13 and 6:30 left on the clock. A stellar drive from Lance brought the 49ers down to the SEA 3-yd line and 1st and goal. Elijah Mitchell punched it in for 6 and perhaps in hindsight Zach will wish he took more time off the clock. The 49ers would then fail on the 2-pt attempt, defending a 18-13 lead and giving Corral and the hawks 1:53 to find the end zone.
Following a 4th down conversion and multiple conversions on 3rd down Corral had brought the hawks down to the SF-19. Corral targeted DK in the back corner of the end zone who rose up in double coverage to snag the game winning touchdown.
Finishing with figures of 17/27 230yds 1-TD 1-INT it was a solid outing for Corral when the Hawks offense couldn’t get anything going on the ground. The defense played their part with a much better effort than wk1. They picked off Lance 3 times with rookie CB Tariq Woolen getting his 2nd in as many games.
A matchup with the Atlanta Falcons awaits in week 3 with the Seahawks looking to put even more dents into the SFL
