No team wants to hear news of any long-term injury, but the news hits even harder when it involves your star running back.
Christian McCaffery has logged 42 rushing attempts, gaining 162 yards and scored a pair of touchdowns on the season thus far, but after suffering a dislocated elbow he'll be out until the Panthers bye week come week 8.
The Stanford product was knocked out of Carolina's week 3 game against the Tenessee Titans during the teams first drive, giving the keys to Johnathan Stewart and rookie Henry Cates, who were both less than stellar.
He returned week 4 to face off against a divisional foe in the Atlanta Falcons and suffered the same fate. During their first drive he went down again, but this time the Panther's biggest concern came to light.
Now without a "home run hitter" of a runner, the Panthers had to look elsewhere and inquired about the services of former Green Bay Packer, Jamaal Williams.
With the emergance of Sherman Powe and consistency of Ty Montgomery in Green Bay he wasn't needed and looking for a home. Luckily enough he wasn't signed by another team and Carolina hopes to capitalize on this for years to come.
Williams will start for Carolina until McCaffery returns in week 9.
