As if the 2019 season couldn't get any worse for the now 3-9 Carolina Panthers they will be without one of their key components for the remainder of the season.
Tight-End Nico Santiago suffed a broken collarbone in 35-7 loss to the Arizona Cardinals in week 13. The 2nd year man out of Oregon collected a game high 5 receptions for 80 yards before leaving the game.
"It's just been a tough year all-around," said Coach Charles. "To lose Santiago in a game like this really shakes up what's left of the locker room."
Carolina will have to scramble to find someone to fill the hole left by this most recent injury, which may lead to the signing of practice squad rookie Carlos Meriweather, whom will play behind the veteran in Greg Olsen.
Olsen could also use this opportunity to retain yet another contract from his current squad as the Panthers have yet to commit to an extension between them and the 12-year vet.
Santiago leaves behind a team high 45 receptions, to go with his 564 yards and 3 touchdowns on the year.
