After a solid week one game on the road, the Giants took on the Carolina Panthers for the first home game of the season. What ensued left many leaving the stadium early, as the home team lost 41-14 in what was a total blowout.
The show that Carolina put on both on offense and defense just could not be matched. Daniel Jones started the game off looking actually pretty decent on the first drive, until a redzone pass that was picked off, and he just did not seem to shake that off as he went on to throw 4 more. He did finish the day with 280 yards and 2 TDs in the air to make the final not look so bad, but it was clear to any who saw the game, that had the Panthers kept playing full-on ball, this couldve been one of the biggest blowouts in NYG history.
Defensively, there was a lot left to be desired. G-men did come away with 2 INTs, a chunk of tackles for losses, and a forced fumble. But a lot of missed and broken tackles happened as well. NYG lucked out even on a roughly 60 yard CMC run where he was faking defenders out AND breaking tackles that was called back on a hold. The team is young and while there are flashes, it's clear that there will be a lot of growth needed to take that next step. Coaching will need to improve along with the roster.
There were two goals to achieve this game for this squad (along with trying to win);Get Kalen Ballage 2+ TDs or 100+ yards, and get 3+ combined sacks and tackles for loss with Azeez Ojulari
Ballage managed to get his 2 touchdowns, cementing himself as a star back for the team, and while certain defensive players did get what was needed, Ojulari did not. Coaching staff is not worried about him though, and have faith he will prove himself throughout this season.
The Giants take on the Cowboys next week in an attempt to get ahead in the unpredictable NFC East.
