The goal at the beginning of the Chicago Bears' season was to achieve 8 wins. "I thought 8 wins were a fair amount of wins to aim for. A rookie starting at QB with a very young defense with many of them being 1st or 2nd year starters...figured the wins would be difficult to come by. So yeah, we wanted something reasonable but difficult to attain to help push our players to playing at the highest possible level as well as help push them beyond that level." said Coach Cypha who was all smiles after having attained his 9th win of the season.
The wins were especially difficult to come by but for a completely different reasons. The Chicago Bears lost 7 of their starters by the end of week 3 and was also their 3rd loss of the season. Included in their 8 was the aformentioned rookie QB Keevin Steed drafted 1st overall and hailing from Louisville where his combination of arm strength & size captivated coaches into trading up to the #1 pick for him. When he returned, the team was barely holding a 3-4 record. Since his return, the team has gone 6-1 and he currently leads the SFL in completion percentage with 74.8...if he were eligible.
The real MVP of this team is HB Jeremy Langford who has recently been on a touchdown tear as he has scored 11 total touchdowns in his last 4 games. His effort has propelled him to the top of the Best HB list and he may literally be running away with it. "Anything to help my team win. I'll run it, I'll split out wide, I'll do whatever it takes to get this team wins" said the rising star HB Jeremy Langford.
The defense has also been a bright spot in the second half of the season as they are currently 4th in total defense. "We're young but we have a lot of promise. I think we get better by the week and we make the impact plays when we need to and we play very disciplined football. I'll give all the credit to the coaching staff and especially Coach Cypha for instilling that within us." said SS Miles Killebrew who is the leading tackler for this Bears team and was originally drafted by division rival Detroit Lions before being cut.
The Chicago Bears locked up the NFC North with the blowout victory over the Cleveland Browns and look to continue winning in hopes of attaining the #2 seed and guarantee themselves a first round bye plus homefield for their first playoff game.
