This post was written the night of November 20th, before any playoff games were played. The post is split between real life user skills and in-season Madden results.
1. Packers (15-1) Joe did not join the ranks of Mike, BLD and other in the club of 16-0 regular seasons. He was very close as he entered week 17 at 15-0 against BLD. Joe’s stellar defense has propelled him to the #1 ranking this season. We shall see if Joe can overcome his former playoff woes and finally win the big one. Also, if you think Joe is slowing down any: He has two rookies that won Offensive and Defensive Players of the year. Joe grabbed the #1 seed in the NFC and a first round bye.
2. Lions (14-2) Though Joe had the best record in the league, and won the NFC North, BLD remains near the top as he is still the most skilled Madden player in RML. An unprecedented 2 losses this season were caused due to scheduling conflicts, which caused sim losses. The common theme at the top, of course, is stellar defense and no one does it better than BLD. He has the best User MLB I’ve ever seen and it’s not even close. He will be hard to beat in the playoffs, as always. Will we see Packers-Lions for the 3rd time in the NFC playoffs? BLD grabbed the #5 seed in the NFC and will face Bundy’s Giants in the first round.
3. Texans (13-3) These next few spots were tough to decide. There are 7 teams that finished 13-3 or better. That’s very high, even for RML. I think Texans has led th 13-3 group this season. They have a very balanced offensive attack and don’t turn the ball over much. They also have one of the best defenses in the league. The Texans might be the most balanced team in the league, which will be very beneficial in the playoffs. I think Houston is one of the favorites to win the AFC Championship. Texans won the AFC South but lost the tiebreakers to give them the #3 seed in the AFC. They will face their division rival, Doughboy’s Jaguars in the first round.
4. Colts (13-3) Talk about stacked divisions. The top 4 teams come from just 2 divisions. The AFC South is the most stacked division in RML once again. Even with Mike long gone, the Colts are still a perennial top 5 team. Tillman has established himself as the real deal. The reigning Super Bowl champion didn’t have spectacular numbers on either side of the ball, but he found ways to win time and time again. We very well could see 2 intra-divisional matchups for the AFC and NFC Title games. Unfortunately for Tillman, being in tough AFC South gave him the 5 seed in the AFC playoffs. He faces Brad’s Patriots in the first round.
5. Steelers (13-3) These next two teams have arguably the 2 best offensive players in the league. Sentra’s power rushing game drove him to an AFC North title at 13-3. Tevin Coleman is the NFL MVP and AFC OPOY. Sentra came out of nowhere after finishing toward the bottom of the league last year. He’s not in your face, and his team follows suit. They’re not flashy, but they’ll run the ball down your throat when they have to. Sentra’s Steelers led the NFL with 160 rush yards per game. Steelers gained the advantage of having a bye week in round 1 of the playoffs. They are the #2 seed
6. Raiders (13-3) Danny’s Raiders are lower than expected for being the #1 seed in the AFC. Danny is an offensive minded player with some great weapons. Josh Rosen finished 2nd in the race for MVP and OPOY. Danny walked his way to another AFC West title with a 13-3 record. He won the tiebreakers and owns the #1 seed. But, with so many good teams in the AFC playoffs, no matter who wins, it will be a tough match for the RAIDUHS.
7. Jaguars (12-4) Doughboy has had a great season as a part of the 3 headed monster that is the AFC South. Not very often will a 12-4 record get you 3rd place in your own division. In fact, I’m pretty sure that’s never happened. Regardless, there is hope for Doughboy. He has one of the highest scoring offenses in the league. His defense is well above average, and he doesn’t turn the ball over much. All these things are keys to winning in RML. However, as with Danny, there is a ton of great competition in the AFC. Can Doughboy make it out alive? Jaguars have the #6 seed and face their rival, the Texans in the first round.
8. Cardinals (13-3) Monkey has stepped up his game this season and jumped right into the thick of the NFC’s elite players. While the NFC West is definitely not one of the stronger divisions, Monkey still showed that he can hang with the big dogs. Monkey’s defense was above average, as usual. His passing game really drove in the wins for him this season. However, the big weakness for Monkey is turnovers. If he can be safer with the ball while still airing it out, he will be tough to beat. Monkey sealed the #2 seed and earned a first round bye.
9. Falcons (10-6) Falcons has had a quiet season, but he won the NFC South. Another division that isn’t stacked by any means. Falcons might have the easiest road to the Super Bowl of any team playing in the first round. He plays Cody’s Rams and with a win would then play Monkey’s Cardinals. Falcons will most likely continue to rely on their stud WR Kevin Jacobs, who is turning into one of the best deep threats in the game. Falcons grabbed the #3 seed and face the Rams in the first round.
10. Giants (10-6) Bundy won a tight race with Dan’s Redskins to get into the playoffs. Bundy has rode his workhorse, Leonard Fournette to the #4 seed. Fournette and Cam Newton lead a solid, balanced offense. Bundy’s defense hasn’t been among the top in the league, but it’s above average and more than good enough to compete. Bundy has the toughest first round opponent in BLD’s Lions. With Joe winning the NFC North, that leaves BLD as a wildcard team, meaning he’ll go on the road to Metlife Stadium and face Bundy. Bundy has had some turnover issues, which BLD capitalizes on more than any user in RML. It doesn’t look great for Bundy, but he might be able to keep it competitive.
11. Patriots (8-8) Brad’s Patriots have had an up and down season. They barely won their division with just an 8-8 record. It was a competitive season, nonetheless. Brad has had some trouble with the turnovers as well. His young QB Jamen Gardner shows potential, but he’ll need to play well in order to go anywhere in the playoffs this year. Brad will be riding his top 5 rushing attack with Duke Johnson leading the way. Brad got the #4 seed with the division title win and has the task of taking on Tillman’s Colts in the first round.
12. Rams (9-7) Cody’s Rams have one of the best defenses in the league. They force a lot of turnovers and sack the QB a lot. It’s safe to say they were carried by their defense to the playoffs. They finished 9-7 and needed some help from the Cowboys to get into the playoffs. The Rams offense is not good. They have struggled most of the year with a few bright spots here and there. An injury to Dalvin Cook didn’t help, but James White played well in his place. The Rams also lost star pass rusher Cameron Jordan for a good chunk of time. Rams snuck into the #6 seed and will face the Falcons in the first round. Cook is back in, but Cameron Jordan is still out for another week. We’ll have to see if the offense can pull their weight in this playoff game.
