The Ultimate Mock Draft Part 1

1.Titans

Mike- Lewis McDonald WR Stanford - Titans had a lot wrong with this past season, hence the first overall pick. QB will likely be addressed in Free Agency, leaving a gaping need for a playmaker. McDonald has speed to burn.

Joe- Lewis McDonald WR Stanford - Look, I’m not sure how much speed one needs at the WR spot, but there’s no doubt the Titans have an affinity for WRs that can run. This might be a difficult decision if this was a Year 1 NFL Draft, as McDonald is 24 years old, but at this point in the Madden year, attributes rule supreme.

2. Raiders

Mike- Colby Harrell QB Pittsburgh - The Raiders have given up on Jimmy Loverne, their last QB picked in the first round. Harrell survived the test of time and nobody in this class nears his skill or potential. Solid QB pick.

Joe- Colby Harrell QB Pittsburgh - You could probably flip a coin to determine who is the best QB of the top three, as the Combine didn’t really set any of them apart. By default I’ll lean towards Harrell, if only because my inside sources suggest it’s the right move.

3. Chargers

Mike- Braylon Felton WR Oregon - The Chargers desperately need a decent playmaker anywhere on the field. Felton was arguably the best college player this year and is almost a surefire guy.

Joe- FS Joey Ravitz Tennessee - The inverse of the No. 1 overall pick, if Ravitz were available in opening RML NFL Draft, I think he goes first overall, given his age and relative position of need for most teams. Given his 4.45 40-yard dash is faster than all but six CBs (in other news, good god the CB class is trash), Ravitz has unparalleled athleticism for a team needing just about every position.

4. Cardinals

Mike- Bryan Curry RB Auburn - Curry gets the edge over Stephens here due to his shiftiness and quickness. Cardinals needs a new workhorse as Devonta Freeman was not re-signed, Curry can be the next franchise back.

Joe- Jawara Stephens RB Stanford - guaranteed to enter the league with a superstar dev, Stephens is one of those rare players who fits both molds - best player available, and a position of need. At least this season, the rookie RB should entice Kam to compete in Madden instead of focusing so much on his Tinder profile.

5. Eagles

Mike - Jawara Stephens RB Stanford - The second Cardinal taken off the board, Stephens is the best RB in a lot of scouts books. He gets taken by a team with a well established passing game that could use a RB good in all areas.

Joe - Bryan Curry RB Auburn - This could all change depending on who Andy signs in free agency, but my bet is that he’ll come away with the secondary options on the market, opening the door for Curry to come to Philadelphia. While he doesn’t come with the dev of Stephens, he’s arguably the more complete RB and should fit in nicely with a developing offense.

6. Packers

Mike - Barry Bellisari WR Clemson - What would a mock draft be without the Packers getting a WR? For once the need is here and the fit works. Bellisari can fit right away and make an impact.

Joe - Ross Kowaleski OLB Pittsburgh - Similar to how Danny made obvious his plans to draft a QB last year, my David Njoku trade signals a need for OLB. Unfortunately there is not a lot of depth in this class, so I’m happy Kowaleski falls to me. The offensive weapons (rightfully) will draw more of the conversation in the first five picks, but Kowaleski figures to be one of the best defensive prospects of this class.

7. Packers

Mike - Ross Kowaleski OLB Pittsburgh - A solid defensive prospect brings more stability for the Packers here. Easy pick and day one starter for the Pack.

Joe - Casey Moody RE Ohio State - My mission to not have opponents nearly break run/pass ratios against me sets me up to add another defensive end. I’m not particularly happy about the pick, but fuck if I let Mike guess which WR I want.

8. Panthers

Mike - Malcolm Truong QB Miami - The second QB is off the board. The Jimmy G experiment was everything but a success for the Panthers. A young QB can energize the franchise. This team has a lot of holes and is a hot spot for teams looking to trade up picks.

Joe - Malcolm Truong QB Miami - Thanks to last year’s QB bonanza, the need for the most pivotal position in the NFL isn’t exactly at an all-time high in RML. Save for Bruce’s Steelers, and the aforementioned Raiders, the Panthers project to be the only team interested in a slow QB. That’s solid news for Carolina fans as Truong will likely have solid enough attributes to be one of the higher No. 8 picks in RML 18 history.

9. Bears

Mike - Joey Ravitz FS Tennessee - The best secondary prospect in this draft falls to CHI town who desperately need a defensive anchor. This is a run to the podium type of pick.

Joe - Barry Bellisari WR Clemson - Given we legitimately have no idea who new Bears owner is or what he might want out of his roster, I literally just picked a random WR of the top group from a hat. Yup, that’s what Season 5 of RML has boiled down to.

10. Ravens

Mike- Gerard Clarke MLB Florida - Clarke was a monster at Florida and his Heisman win will outweigh his lower 40 time. Clarke is the final piece to complete the Ravens defense. Clarke has a nose for the ball and will fit perfectly.

Joe - Will Burse RB Notre Dame - There’s very few things Jeff needs to complete his roster, but a RB is clearly one of them. I’m not sure if he’ll opt for the speed player, or say a bruiser like Banks Pettway, but in order for the Ravens to get the guy they want I think it’s imperative they make the pick here. With Weasel thirsting for any semblance of a RB he can abuse into oblivion and only three “studs” remaining, this begins the “Weasel Zone” of potential trade up possibilities.

11. Bills

Mike- Demarcus Miree CB Michigan State - Miree is an okay CB elevated by a poor surrounding cast. The Bills do not have many needs, but they need to address the secondary early.

Joe - Travis Dixon LE Pittsburgh - Man I’m projecting a lot of Panthers to go in the top 10. I don’t have any sort of read as to which way Cam will go, so I slotted him with the highest potential player that’s not a safety. This again would be one of those players going in the top-10 of a beginning draft, and certainly would be a mighty nice keeper prospect (hint, I really want to do that, hint) but he falls down to No. 12. Good bargain for the commish!

12. Bills

Mike- Jacoby Flynn WR Nebraska - Flynn is another solid WR and gives the Bills even more offensive options for Josh Rosen. Rosen does not need a replacement yet, but if Flynn doesn’t help, there might not be much options for Rosen.

Joe - Oscar Ganaway WR Texas A&M - I’m already bored projecting AFC East draft picks and we still have 67 more first-round picks for the Jets to go. This WR group is by far the deepest I have ever seen created in a Madden league, so at this point it’s a pick your poison type deal. One of these WRs will be separated from the other thanks to their dev story, but there’s no way of telling until after the draft. So assume Cam is going to draft a slow dev WR here regardless of what his name is.

13. Cardinals

Mike - Laterrius Meadows WR Nebraska - Flynns teammate gets taken directly after him, but both warrant this position in the draft. Meadows is a for sure target and gives the Cardinals reliable hands which has evaded their team since their Super Bowl appearance.

Joe - Demarcus Miree CB Michigan State - He’s a slow CB, like so many of his positional counterparts, but he should have a high overall and that’s...good, right? Ideally a pass rushing OLB would be in the cards (name puns for the win!) but in lieu of making another Kam sex joke, I’ll just say most of the OLB are not draftable.

14. Bengals

Mike - Trey Saunders WR Michigan State - The Bengals get another offensive weapon to help Josh Allen and try to keep improving. Bengals, keep on ignoring everyone’s trade offers and stay put. You’re doing great sweetie.

Joe - Martinez Collins LT Texas A&M - My uncle used to say someone whose full name is either constructed of two first names or two last names was bad luck. Fun little anecdote because I don’t have much else to say about this pick.

15. 49ers

Mike - Oscar Ganaway WR Texas A&M - 49ers need to give Javi Burgess someone to take defenders off of, and Simon a reason to stop throwing interceptions.

Joe - Braylon Felton WR Oregon - Is there a support group for horrible trade offers that Dan makes for your players? If not, I’m going to make one - meetings begin every Monday at 7 pm ET, and I’ll bring chocolate chip cookies. As an aside, he lucks into Felton here because I sorta forgot about him when projecting WRs to people.

16. Patriots

Mike- Casey Moody DE Ohio State - Arguably the best overall defensive prospect in this draft, Patriots get a steal here. Moody is a beast and can lead the team in sacks his first season. Moody is flexible and can line up anywhere on the front 7. Pats with a steal.

Joe - Gerald Clarke MLB Florida - I. Love. This. Pick. In one of the rare instances where you write a mock draft without intentionally slotting players in certain spots, Clarke fits a major area of need for Brad and also brings a bit of promise to his team thanks to the Heisman dev. Yes he is slow, and that is not good. BUTTTT, his superstar dev might convince him to change his mind on keepers!
