Bartel's 1-10 Mock Draft

1. Eagles – Derek Silva QB – It’s the age old question of taking the quarterback or going with a stud elsewhere, except in this case the quarterback is also the stud. After shuttling through approximately 37 QBs last year, Silva enters as RML’s version of Andrew Luck with a little less grit and a lot less beard.

2. Ravens (by way of Lions) – Henry Okung CB – It might be odd to see Baltimore select a cornerback given their stocked depth chart at the moment, but this feels like a move for the future. With an impressive array of stud wide receivers currently located in the AFC, it would make sense for the Ravens to make do on the mistakes they made last season, in which they saw prime target, cornerback Sherrod Ivey, get bamboozled from their hands in a trade by the Lions. Everything comes full circle for the team perpetually in the top-5 in terms of draft picks.

3. Bengals – Curtis Johnson WR – This pick was almost assuredly going to be a QB prior to the Real Rookie Draft, in which the Bengals selected Josh Allen. Presumably this opens the door for another position to be on the table, but with a bevy of needs, you have to wonder if this pick will change hands. Since we can’t project trades, the Bengals will take Curtis Johnson, far and away the best wide receiver in this class before we even see the combine. T.J. (short for THE Johnson) has the makings of a Greg Steele lookalike, without the slow development attached.

4. Colts (by way of Jaguars) – Davonte Wilkinson HB – What’s a two-time champion to do after two of his favorite picks have already gone in front of him? Draft a better RB! I’m not saying that the Colts lost because they lacked a ground game, but Leonard Fournette was the RB during both of Indy’s Super Bowl runs, whereas Samaje Perine was the back of choice this past season. 40 times will likely solidify who the top half back is to own, but with Mike sharing a similar philosophy to JaF (Weaslope, AKA Jordan Allen Ford, AKA Jordan BagFace) in their fascination for power runners, the 6’0 ball carrier with an emphasis in stiff arming seems like the way to go. So long as Mike doesn’t acquire David Johnson for four pennies – otherwise known as the equivalent to a third round pick – a stud RB should be the way to go here.

5. Jaguars (by way of Dolphins) – ROLB Lewis Goff – In any other draft class, this might be the best player, and yet the Jags get him at No. 5. The 22-year-old, who ran the fastest 40-time of any linebacker entering the draft, Goff could be used in any way shape or form – whether it be as a user linebacker or pass rusher similar to what the Jets do with Stupid Bitch Virgil. With a bevy of picks, Jacksonville has the opportunity to drastically improve its roster, with Goff as the crown jewel.

6. Patriots – TE James Amaya – Fun fact, could you name who the starting TE for the Patriots is projected to be next season? If you didn’t answer, you would be right, as the 34-year-old Brad currently doesn’t have a single TE on his roster. While that should change in free agency, let’s slot him with another fun toy in the form of Amaya, who joins a wealth of other TEs in the first round who could pay dividends to their respective teams.

7. Panthers – FS – Zach Shanle – A roster that would surprise you given the younger studs currently on the team, the Panthers solidy their depth at the safety spot, so they won’t have to start a cornerback there an area of need. Much like the TE position, the safety class as a whole looks to have plenty of talent and depth, meaning the Panthers could trade down and likely scoop up a similar level of player if they so choose.

8. Saints – T.J. Beal WR – After taking Saquon Barkley in the Real Rookie Draft, the Saints have solidified a major need on offense, setting themselves up to correct the next major need – that being the passing game. While Beal might as well have leprosy given his age, he comes as a ready-made stud at WR, similar to MVP and ROTY winner Greg Maddux from last season.

9. Packers (by way of the Chargers) – MLB Henry Studdard – God knows I need help at linebacker, so I’ll latch onto what looks to be the best prospect of a thin linebacker draft. Seriously, this draft class looks so thin, LeBron’s hairline felt sorry for it. (Ok, I’ll see myself out)

10. 49ers – LG Maka Wansley – Yes Danno B was somehow gifted the first second round pick in the Real Rookie Draft, thus guaranteeing himself 21-year-old LT Connor Williams, which is not at all suspicious given he was controlling the results. However the 49ers double down on their offensive line depth, selecting Wansley, who will be one of the best players in this draft. I’m not trying to blow smoke either – he’s going to be a guaranteed superstar development player who is 21-years-old and has two of his three major blocking attributes listed as B+ or higher. I would be stunned if his overall wasn’t above 81 honestly, making this one of the better value picks in the entire draft. Yes, offensive lineman aren’t valued highly as first-round players by some members of the league *cough Maddening* but when Dan’s trying to extract 80+ overall lineman under the age of 23 for a second and a fourth round pick, it’s clear he likely won’t be finding any suitors anytime soon.
