RML Coach Interview: A Conversation with Bills' Shrimply Pibbles

Today we start a series where we will sit down with select RML coaches and ask them questions about the team and anything in between. Since we are on a low budget, we have to settle for arguably the worst team in RML, sitting at 0-5 in the basement of the AFC, the Buffalo Bills. I'd like to thank Shrimply Pibbles for taking time out of his very busy day to talk to us. We go in detail about the recent AJ Green deal, the 2017 #1 overall pick LB Jorian White, and tanking.

Q: Coach Pibbles, Why did the team feel it was necessary to move a talent like AJ[Green]?

A: As great of a WR AJ is, I noticed that the only time I looked his way was on desperation long bombs. He came to management and told us he was unhappy and wanted a change of scenery, so we gave him what he wanted. It was a hard decision but I think it's best for both sides.

Q: How do you think the fans are reacting to this deal? You must really be testing their patience especially after the season you had last season(going 1-15)?

A: I think reactions will be very mixed. Some will probably be relieved that they won't have to watch AJ be unerutilized week after week and others will probably be calling for my head for giving up such a talent. But I think they'll come to realize that this trade filled a lot of holes on the squad, and you really can't be unhappy with getting a young stud like Myles Jack, especially after losing Jorian White for 7 weeks.

Q: Yes about Jorian White...how has he been for the team up until te injury? Is he living up to the hype that comes with a 1st overall pick? How disappointed are you with the injury? Do you think this will stunt his growth as a player?

A:  Jorian had been having a quietly great year before his injury. His stats weren’t eye popping in the sack category like many expected, but he was near the team lead in tackles and led the team in tackles for loss. He was over performing in the run stopping department and I couldn’t have been more pleased. In the game where he got injured, he was having his best game of the season, grabbing a sack or two and he dislocated his knee on a play where he forced a fumble. It’s always tough to see anybody go down with an injury like that, especially a young guy who was really coming into his own. Luckily, our medical staff did a great job of diagnosing the injury, and they made sure there wasn’t any damage to any arteries or veins, so luckily amputation was never a possibility. Jorian is expected to make a full recovery and will come back better and more hungry to perform than ever.

Q: Glad to hear that, he sounds like a great player and a great teammate. Now the first thing people see when they look at the Bills is that 0-5 record...with the trade of AJ is it fair to say that the Buffalo Bills are tanking?

A: That trade was actually supposed to be a way to turn the season around, as even though 0-5 looks terrible, many of the games have been competitive and come down to a few bad bounces here and there. That being said, 0-5 is unacceptable to a fan base, especially such a loyal and dedicated fan base like we have here in Buffalo. All I can ask is that Bills fans keep believing in us and trust our process.

Q: No NFL team has ever made the playoffs starting 0-5, so with that said, why should Bills fans continue going to games and watching on TV? What can they expect to see?

A: Fans can expect to see a team that is going to give its all out there every single game and will never quit on them. The playoffs do look like a distant hope at this point, but our squad won’t give up. Winning out might not be possible, but we’re hoping for at least 2 wins against our division rival Patriots

Q: One final quesion...with the trade deadline right around the corner, can we expect anymore deals from the Bills?

A: I wouldn't put it out of the question. If a deal we can't pass up comes around to help us build for the future, we'll make hat deal. But as it stands right now, I think our organization is happy with the great group of guys we have in the locker room, and I think we can really outperform people's expectations with this team. Some fans might want us to go out and sign someone to replace Jorian while he's out, but I think Jabaal Sheard and Alex Anzalone will fill in just fine in his absence.

Q: Thank you for your time, Mr. Pibbles, we appreciate it. Good luck the rest of the season!

A: Thanks for having me!
