RML Coach Interview: 49ers' Coach Tony Siragusa

by patriotsfan543 | 7 years ago | 0 Comments

Today we sat down with The Goose himself, Tony Siragusa. Siragusa struggled in his transition to coaching last year in San Fran, going 6-10, but the tides seem to have turned this season. Siragusa has led his 49ers team to a very successful start this year, now at 3-3. Some may be wondering how we acquired a budget to talk to Tony Siragusa in just under a week since our chat with Bills, well the answer is some dude named Vladimir felt like giving us a generous amount of money that should fund us for better interviews down the road. We thank whoever this Vladimir is, he mentioned something about going to Washington, D.C. later, but that isn't our business. In our chat with Tony we discuss the recent success, veteran leadership, and we get to talk to a special guest.

Q: Tony, your team has surprised many people in the game this year starting out strong at 3-3. This comes as a surprise as you finished 6-10 last season. What has been the keys to your success this year?

A: This past offseason, I wanted to focus on implementing a new locker room mantra. Last season, about halfway through the season, our leader Joe Flacco seemed to lose all motivation to win. It was then decided by me, my staff, and my superiors that we should begin searching for his replacement. We decided we needed to do two things, we wanted to draft a quarterback in the middle of the first, with the incredible class coming out. We also decided we needed to pursue new leaders for our locker room. You can't expect both of these to come from a rookie quarterback. During the offseason we traded for Keenan Allen, Sharrif Floyd and Gerald McCoy. I can't thank Keenan enough for taking the younger receivers under his arm and helping the Tyrell and the Marquises inch towards what they can become. On the other side of the locker room, McCoy and Floyd have become the Beavis and Butthead, leading the locker room with a light hearted attitude while portraying an image of success. I attribute all of my success to my players.

Q: The big win that everyone has been buzzing about has been your victory against Cardinals(13-3 last season). How did the players you just mention help in that game? How did you pull of the upset?

A: Sadly, Keenan went down with an injury the week prior. Since then, he's adapted a coaching role. At one point before the game, he had all of the receivers gathered around him as he gave an incredibly motivating speech, asking them to pick up where he left off. This was Marquise Goodwin's first game getting consistent looks all season, and showed in his stat line. On the other side of the ball, both Floyd and McCoy walked away with two sacks, with McCoy stripping the ball.

We pulled off the upset because we focused all week on turnover differential. We COULDN'T turn the ball over. I'm surprised this is my first mention of the Russian Railgun, but due to his training in Russia he suggested that we adapt something his coaches would do. I may get fined for this, but I've decided to be completely open in this interview. We actually strapped high powered jumper cables to his nipples, and every time he threw an interception we zapped him. By the end of the practice, he was throwing precision bombs. This carried over extremely well into the game

Q: Ah yes the Russian Railgun, Simon Milanovich, has become a fan favorite in RML. Elaborate about Simon himself and his performance on the field this year? Is he living up to expectations?

A: Simon's an incredibly hard worker, with focus I haven't ever seen in this league. He's brought some of his own training aspects to football, some things I've never even thought of doing, like taking an ice bath, taking a shot of vodka, then getting straight into the Sauna. This, combined with the toughness of a bear has translated well to both practice and games.

He is exceeding our expectations. Again, with full honesty, we were looking to pursue other QBs in the draft. The first day he did get into a fight with a player over whether or not Trump was a legitimate president, and whether Putin was a good guy or not, but politics aside he's been great for our locker room. Some other players have taken his training suggestions and have performed well because of it, especially Shaq Lawson. That being said, he's had trouble adapting to the NFL game, as he's used to playing on soccer fields made of pavement and dirt. He'll need to curtail his interceptions, but if he's able to do that, I think we may have a star on our hands.

Q: How has his popularity helped expand the 49ers brand in Russia? I’m sure it must be helping merchandise sales internationally

A: It has! His jersey is the highest selling jersey in Russia, but that's expected. He has become fairly popular stateside too, becoming the NFL equivalent of Ilya Bryzgalov with the Russian idioms he brings to post-game press conferences. I think Milanovich, if he continues to succeed, will be huge for both the 49ers brand AND the NFL brand. His dream is to one day have one game a season, like London, played in Moscow. I must say though, even I think we're LONG from that

A: Before we move on, I'm actually with Simon right now, would you like me to put him on the phone?

Q: Yes, that sounds fantastic.

A: Hallo this is Simon. Fat Tony just passed me the phone.

*In the background* "YOU GUYS CALL ME THAT?"

Q: Hi Simon, glad to have you on.

Q: Hello Simon, how have you adjusted to the RML?)

A: I like it so farrr. I trrransferrred to Georrrgia my seniorrr yearrr of kollege, and vould trrravel herrre as child, so I'm somewhat familiarrr vith Amerrrica. I never vould have expected to be drrrafted so high, so I zank Fat Tony forrr zat. I have gotten lot of prrraise frrrom 49errrs fans forrr being saviorrr, which is funny since I'm RRRussian and it's kind of what's happening in Amerrrica rrright now after past election. It's exciting.

Q: Thanks Simon, may I talk to Tony again?

A: *Sounds of chewing* Hey it's Fat Ttt.. I mean Tony Siragusa

Q: Hey Tony, Simon seems like a great kid and could be the face of your franchise. Now, you were just handed a disappointing loss to an 0-5 Lions team. How do you explain this one?

A: I dropped the ball on this past game. We didn't gameplan for a running back as dominant as LaGarette Blount. All season, besides when we played Todd Gurley, we haven't seen many GREAT runningbacks. After last season, we should've realized what Blount can do when given the chance. Also, this Russian sitting across the table from me has such dark bruises on his nipples that we couldn't implement his training regimen for a second week in a row.

Q: One final question Tony, what are your expectations for the rest of the season? Do you believe you have a playoff team?

A: We're going to take it one week at a time. We're all crossing our fingers that Keenan's rehab goes well and he comes back sooner than his designated 6 weeks for his torn abdomen. With him on the field, it adds an entire aspect to our game and allows our offense to extend the field, allowing David to get some great inside runs. Simon's lucky coming into an offense with Jordan, David and Keenan as his primary weapons, so if we can stay healthy which has been a hefty task in the past, I can see us locking up a wildcard spot.

Q: Thank you for your time Tony, good luck the rest of the season. It is great for the US/Russian relationship to have an ambassador such as Simon.

A: Thank you for the questions. We're happy to have somebody as fun as Simon to lead our team for years to come.
