Dolphins Offense Sputters

MIAMI, Fla. -- The Miami Dolphins struggled mightily against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in another rain soaked game in Miami, Florida.

"That was one of the worst football games I've ever been a part of in my 20 years in the National Football League as a player and a coach. That was unacceptable and embarrassing," Dolphins Offensive Coordinator Toby Flenderson said.

Dolphin’s quarterback Dan Marino wasn’t able to get anything going through the air, and the Buccaneers bottled up the Dolphins run game, holding them to 2.4 yards per carry.

The Buccaneers pulled to (2-2) on the season and the Dolphins fall to (1-3)

“We have to get better, and fast…” Dolphins Coach Pat Hearn said with urgency following the loss, “We go up and face a divisional opponent on the road next week. Have to regroup and refocus.”

ONE SIDED EFFORT

The Dolphins intercepted Tom Brady four times and came away with zero touchdowns in the game. They were only able to produce 9 points on 3 field goals in the game. A mind boggling stat — The Dolphins had 20 more pass attempts and 13 more rushing attempts than the Buccaneers and were still blown out at home.

MIKE WILL BLITZ

Dolphins coach Pat Hearn mentioned he is going to have to go back and watch some tape to figure out how to attack this defensive scheme that most other defensive coordinators are bringing to the table now. “They’re stacking the LOS with athletes, blitzing heavily, and forcing us to make quick reads. Sometimes the (user) will fake a blitz and drop back into coverage. The short of it is, we can’t figure out a way to beat this scheme, and since we’re seeing it in use so often, we’ll have to adjust.”

Hearn added that his Quarterback’s accuracy on some of these throws blew his mind, “he’s got the guy wide open and somehow overthrows him by 15 yards on an easy pass.”
